Job Description
Splunk Platform Solution Architect
Location: Remote, US
Platform Solutions Architects are domain experts on the Splunk Enterprise platform and ecosystem of related technologies and integrations. You will provide pre-sales expertise in broad technical areas from architecting multi-site deployments to designing data stream ingestion from tens of thousands of distinct sources.
As one of the senior-most technical pre-sales resources, Platform Solution Architects are responsible for driving strategic opportunities that require deep technical expertise in Splunk Enterprise architecture, deployment strategies including the use of Kubernetes and containers, integrations with enterprise data sources and sinks, as well as other technical areas that align with industry trends.
A successful Platform Solution Architect will not only provide deep technical understanding of the Splunk platform and ecosystem technologies, but also build cross-functional relationships across Splunk’s business, and create collateral to build scale and impact Splunk’s rapid growth rate.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Serve as the highest-level technical escalation in support of the Splunk Enterprise platform and ecosystem of related technologies and integrations.
- Guide customers through architecture, design, and implementation of the Splunk Enterprise platform spanning data collection, processing, storage, search, and reporting capabilities
- Engage with North American and Global Sales and Sales Engineering teams on top accounts while fielding pre-sales engagement requests for other high impact opportunities
- Provide best practices and root cause analysis of the most complex technology challenges -- At times, building test environments and experiments, establishing ad-hoc teams of experts, and collaborating with Product Management and Engineering
- Act as an internal technical expert, fielding questions related to platform and ecosystem technologies
- Support the development and delivery of platform and ecosystem training material for both internal and external audiences
- Demonstrate Splunk products and articulate the value of solutions at advanced sales stages and at high-impact marketing or tradeshow events such as .CONF, Splunk’s annual user conference
- Maintain and extend personal expertise related to evolving and newly-emerging technologies underpinning the latest industry trends and prototype solutions for integration with Splunk
- Influence product capabilities and direction based on crosscutting customer challenges and needs
- Operate as a self-starter who is driven by an intense desire to learn, grow, teach & win
Key Candidate Differentiators:
- 5+ years of experience in a senior pre-sales and/or technical leadership capacity, including experience presenting to CxOs
- 4+ years of experience as a Splunk Administrator or Architect with a proven track record in designing large, distributed Splunk Enterprise deployments
- Expertise in designing scalable, resilient, and secure Splunk architectures
- Expert Linux skills including but not limited to commands to troubleshoot complex distributed systems, network and kernel tuning and other general systems optimization
- Demonstrated ability to architect solutions for on-premises, Cloud IaaS platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP), and hybrid architectures
- Knowledge of enterprise storage systems/solutions, SAN, NAS, JBOD, converged architectures
- Experience with container deployment technologies including Docker and Kubernetes
- Experience with an enterprise message bus and streaming technologies (e.g., DSP, Confluent, Kinesis) including architecture, deployment, sources/sinks, functions and building pipelines
- Experience programming against REST API’s and best practices around agentless data collection (HTTP Event Collector, Elasticsearch)
- Possess strong presentation skills and is able to communicate clearly and professionally at all levels within and outside of the company
- Possess a broad background in technical infrastructure, including servers, networking devices, and storage
- Expertise in at least one scripting language (Python, bash, etc.)
- Ability to navigate Open Source ecosystem and articulate how Splunk compliments, co-exists, and competes
- DevOps/SRE experience including associated toolsets (Git, Chef, Puppet, Jenkins, Bamboo) highly desirable
Education:
- Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline (e.g., computer science, electrical engineering, information systems, or similar) -- exceptionally well-qualified candidates with equivalent experience will be considered
