About Aperio Research

The Aperio research team applies quantitative techniques and cutting edge tools to solve complex after tax investment problems in the tax, factors, and ESG space.

The team’s mission is to:

  • Establish Aperio as a leading client partner in the after-tax investment space.
  • Improve the quantitative portfolio construction processes and enhance existing strategies.
  • Research and develop new products and solutions in partnership with Aperio colleagues that solve client problems.
  • Author articles, presentations, and other collateral to provide advisors with insights on incorporating tax, factor, and ESG into their practice.
  • Serve after taxable clients to solve complex investment problems by employing cutting edge quantitative tools and frameworks

Position Description

Aperio seeks a Director of Research to manage a high performing team of researchers. The successful candidate will collaborate with internal stakeholders and clients to set the research agenda and manage research projects in the direct indexing space. The candidate will have a passion for applying quantitative techniques to solving investment problems as they apply to taxable investors. They will possess strong people management skills and an ability to work closely with team members through complex modelling issues. The role requires the ability to lead and evaluate work on the development and assessment of strategies for taxable and tax-exempt investors. We are looking for a creative, detail-oriented problem-solver, with demonstrated management, prioritization and leadership skills.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Set the research agenda to support product development, strategy enhancements, and pieces that share our insights to drive further client conversations.
  • Manage the prioritization of research projects across our Tax, ESG, and factor pillars.
  • Create new solutions to complex client/investor problems in quantitative portfolio management, risk, attribution, and optimization.
  • Work closely with the portfolio management and ESG teams to improve strategies, portfolio construction, and implementation.
  • Continue to evolve our after-tax research infrastructure.
  • Communicate research insights to clients and prospects.

Required Skills/Experience

  • Demonstrated ability to lead and manage a quantitative research team.
  • Extensive experience with factor risk models and optimizers.
  • Excellent mathematical, finance, and statistics skills
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills with demonstrated ability to translate research insights into articles and presentations.
  • Experience in tax-managed equity strategies or after-tax research is highly desired.
  • Experience with ESG data and focus on client driven values and mission alignment.
  • Ability to evaluate construction and analysis of large, complex data sets to provide answers to research questions.
  • Track record of delivering answers to complex research questions.
  • Experience in quantitative portfolio management.
  • Acute attention to detail
  • Demonstrated initiative, broad perspective, and creativity.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with clients
  • Ten-plus years of relevant finance work experience.

Our hybrid work pilot
