Job Description

Overview of the Role:

As a Comcast Network Engineer, you will join an experienced team of engineers responsible for the infrastructure and core routing design of Converged Regional Area Network (CRAN). Additional duties will include performance engineering, real time analysis and optimization of the existing CRAN. Each Comcast CRAN combines the following services – high speed data, video, voice, and business services - onto a single converged IP infrastructure. Our network is comprised of approximately 15,000 routers, four vendors, and dozens of platforms supporting Residential and Business Services customers spanning 28 regional networks across the nation.

Preferred Skills & Experience:

  • Service provider experience
  • Very Solid understanding of IP routing/switching (ISIS, OSPF, BGP, MPLS)
  • Solid scripting skills required, in any of the following languages: Python, Perl, Unix, PHP, and MySQL
  • Proficient in the understanding and practical application of programming the network versus configuring networks
  • Solid grasp of IPv4, IPv6, Multicast and QOS
  • Very organized individual with the ability to handle multiple projects, lead and/or participate on multiple project teams
  • Proven business skills to interact with internal business units and external vendors
  • Additional experience in server-based technology, such as Microsoft and Unix is a plus
  • Prior network engineering and support experience. Generally, requires 5+ years of related experience.
  • BS degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or other technology related field

Other desirable skills not limited to:

  • Working with Open Source. Both as a user and community contributor.
  • Virtualization
  • Software Defined Networking, network automation, data-plane programming.
  • Familiarity with any of these or similar tools and systems: Quagga, Bird, FD.io VPP, FBOSS, Wedge, Cisco Lindt, Kafka.
  • Network telemetry, key-value & JSON document stores, time-series databases.
  • Distributed systems

Core Responsibilities:

  • Engineering support CRAN services – high speed data, video, voice, and business services products.
  • Contribute efforts to automate internal processes and tools to improve overall consistency in routine engineering task execution.
  • Drive towards an environment and architecture where programming networks can replace a model of traditional network configuration.
  • Support and/or improve standard methodologies and procedures for network installation, maintenance, and operation.
  • Implement Network Engineering plan of record including, business requirements, network strategy, project priority and financial budget plan.
  • Model network capacity for failure scenarios to proactively predict routing and topology changes.
  • Monitor network capacity, plan and implement market augments as needed.
  • Exercise Comcast standard processes during site design, network configuration, and network activation to ensure efficient use of funds and time.
  • Participate and/or lead assigned interdepartmental technical projects.
  • Communicate applicable design guidelines and provide guidance to regional markets to ensure compliance to network design standards.
  • Develops practices and procedures for network installation, maintenance, and operation.
  • Develops and implements test and acceptance criteria for network elements.
  • Schedules equipment activations, customer-affecting network maintenance develops documents of customer networks for network users. Meets with potential customers, designs solutions, implements solutions that are adaptable to customer need changes.
  • Exercises judgment during incident management, site design, network configuration and network activation to ensure efficient use of funds and time.
  • Designs network site planning for multiple regional network sites.
  • Develops and maintains network element documentation and inventory. Maintains appropriate inventory or network spare equipment for rapid restoration.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Pay Range: $79,443.27 - $119,164.91

Comcast intends to offer the selected candidate base pay within this range, dependent on job-related, non-discriminatory factors such as experience.

Most sales positions are eligible for a Commission under the terms of an applicable plan, while most non-sales positions are eligible for a Bonus.
