Job Description

PRINCIPAL OBJECTIVE:

The Executive Director is responsible for interpreting the brand strategy in an in-store environment, unifying the brand image at a global level, and enhancing the consumer experience for the La Mer brand. This role will lead the Store Design team in conceptualization, manage budgets and supervise all existing projects on a global focus and understanding the needs for each market and related criteria into the thoughtful design development of integrated store environments.

ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Directional Design:

  • Lead the team to evolve new store design concept working closely with VM and 2D
  • Manage and direct workflow of Store Design team
  • Work closely with Vice President, Store Design and Visual Merchandising to ensure global brand consistency in Store Design is being maintained with attention to regional relevance
  • Work closely with the markets to define cost structures and tiering systems; develop design standards for each tier
  • Oversee and provide directional guidance on design of all doors (FSS, DS, Perfumery, TR & retail counters)
  • Oversee renovations of all doors to ensure budgets and timelines are met

Project Management:

  • Direction and coordination between: Architectural & Engineering consultants - domestic & international, Project Managers, Contractors, Retailers , all suppliers & trades persons, International affiliates, MROs, Field directors, Field Sales, Internal departments brand- corporation and Retail Store Development Group (corporate)

Activities:

  • Host and lead regular project status updates
  • Regular conference calls with all parties (globally)
  • Establish and review project timelines & schedules
  • Oversee general contractor & executive architect selection
  • Monthly strategic door list review for international doors
  • As part of the yearly round table for all store design staff/ architects/ corporate store designers/ vendors (40 participants) to train on standards, construction details and resources
  • Conceiving yearly “store design source book” with all brand store design standards
  • Construction supervisions –conference calls / meetings on site
  • Site visits, market visits and reviews (globally)

Creation of Evolving Store Design Concept:

  • Architectural concept & development
  • Fixture concept & development
  • Lighting concept & development
  • R&D
  • Prototyping
  • Technical detailing
  • Code compliance
  • Budget calculations
  • Construction management
  • Design execution control
  • Presentation to seniors’ management within the brand and corporate

Management of Store Design Department in NY:

  • Train, develop and coach team members

Management of EMEA Project Design/Management Team:

  • Training and coaching of Directors, Managers, Designers
  • Team building, team motivation
  • Project coordination
  • General supervision
  • Reviewing and approving budgets
  • Monitoring work processes

Management of Asia-Pacific Project Design/Management Team:

  • Training and coaching of staff members
  • Team building, team motivation
  • Regular status with Director of department
  • General supervision

Accounting:

  • Strategic planning of yearly budget for Store Design department
  • Reviewing yearly budget for Store Construction department
  • Reviewing yearly budget for A/P department for project management
  • Purchase order approval
  • Expense report approval
  • Processing of all store design related invoices (contractors, Freelancers & suppliers)
  • Budget estimates for free standing store – domestic
  • Budget consulting for international projects
  • Expense monitoring during construction processes (globally)

Construction Supervision:

  • Punch lists
  • Shop drawing reviews
  • Site inspections
  • Construction reviews
  • Regular reviews with project managers and retail store development group

Professional Support on Global Roll-Out Strategies:

  • Comprehensive understanding of cultural and commercial nuances of all key regions
  • Strategic meetings with VP International Sales
  • Strategic meetings with Regional Sales Managers
  • Market visits and location scouting
  • Identifying shopping trends & habits
  • Consultation on real estate evaluation
  • Identifying Store design related resources in new markets
  • Preliminary budget estimates for store buildouts
  • Creating setup guidelines for new markets – first doors

Qualifications

Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Architecture or equivalent
  • 10+ of direct or related experience
  • Experience managing a team, including full-time and freelance staff
  • 3D drawing and rendering skills needed
  • Strong knowledge of computer programs (or similar) - Vector Works, Autocad, Adobe Photo Shop, Adobe Acrobat
  • Ability to work closely with a variety of people in various disciplines
  • Superior organizational skills
  • Superior leadership skills inclusive of supervisory experience
  • Ability to work independently and lead a team
  • Ability to work in a very fast-paced environment
  • Strong interpersonal skills
