We’re looking for a skilled and motivated attorney to join the CGI legal team to work collaboratively with our internal business clients to help the Company achieve its business objectives while minimizing risk and maintaining a positive work environment that aligns with CGI’s values and ethical code. The role would serve as a trusted advisor to our state and local government business, which contracts with nearly all 50 U.S. states as well as with more than 300 local government organizations.

This role must be in one of the following locations: Farifax, VA; DC; New York City, NY: Boston, MA; Pittsburgh, PA; Charlotte, NC; Atlanta, GA; or Colulmbus, OH.

Your future duties and responsibilities:

Provide legal advice on and lead contract negotiations with state and local government clients (occasional travel required), including reviewing, drafting and negotiating large complex IT contracts and related subcontracts, teaming agreements, and software licenses;
Assist internal clients in developing negotiation and risk mitigation strategies as part of proposal preparation, contract execution and eventual contract performance;
Advise on various teaming and partner relationships as well as on issues involving contract compliance, delays and bid protests;
Provide support in interpretation of complex contract provisions;
Maintain close working relationships with business development and project delivery colleagues; and
Work closely with the General Counsel and other legal team members in connection with dispute resolution and litigation-oriented matters
Required qualifications to be successful in this role
JD from ABA accredited law school, membership in good standing of at least one state bar, and eligibility for Corporate Counsel designation in Virginia (4 - 7 years of experience);
Working knowledge of state and local government contracting practices in the IT industry (e.g., outsourcing, managed services, software licensing, intellectual property rights, acceptance, warranties, liabilities, indemnification, remedies);
Ability to proactively lead a negotiation with minimal oversight, with an understanding of how to bargain over key terms in a way that will not alienate customers;
Ability to handle numerous diverse contractual matters simultaneously;
Ability to creatively work through business issues as well as legal issues;
Ability to learn quickly, gain credibility and influence internal business clients at all levels;
Pragmatic, flexible transactional negotiations style;
Confident self-starter who also knows when to ask questions and to advance matters;
Great teammate with a collaborative manner;
Strong analytical and communication (oral and written) skills; and
Demonstrate sound, pragmatic judgment in ambiguous situations
Strong emphasis is placed on the candidate with a hands-on style who seeks to handle most legal issues in-house, in collaboration with fellow attorneys as well as contracts professionals.

Required qualifications to be successful in this role:

Excellent organizational, problem-solving, and analytical skills with the ability to optimally convey complex information
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Ability to work independently and with limited required direction
Excellent interpersonal skills at all levels of the organization, a demonstrated strong team player, and a good sense of humor
Ability to show initiative, and to manage multiple projects simultaneously with demonstrated follow-through and timely tracking to deadlines
Ability to be flexible and agile, and to maintain a professional and genuine “can do” attitude in response to challenging situations and changing priorities.
