What you will do
As our Lead Compliance Counsel, you will play a key advisory role on any relevant compliance related issues. You will be dedicated to ensure that Catawiki complies with all relevant regulatory requirements and internal policies. In short, you are responsible for making sure that Catawiki plays by the rules. We're looking for candidates with a growth mindset and professional drive, with the ability to quarterback important projects and have company-level impact while working on a variety of regulatory compliance matters.
You'll have a meaningful role on a small-but-mighty legal team and the opportunity to develop professionally in a collaborative and fast-paced environment.
More specifically, as a compliance professional you will need to:
- Keep informed of any relevant regulatory developments as they occur and analyzing their applicability to the company’s activities and objectives, highlight or escalate areas of concern
- Review company policies, projects and practices on a regular basis to ensure that all are in compliance
- Develop, monitor, keep relevant and actual company compliance performance/KPIs and report on those to ensure that the Board is supplied with all pertinent and relevant information on the company’s internal controls, operations and risks
- Develop and implement an employee compliance training plan and also educate employees on not only the compliance practices, procedures and regulations, but also the impact on the organisation if these aren't complied with and build processes to ensure compliance
- Develop and implement mechanisms for detecting, reporting and correcting violations so as to ensure minimal impact and optimal correction
- Recommend and implement corporate policies and strategies that promote the company’s goals while complying with regulations
- Represent the company in the event of administrative or law enforcement audits, investigations or litigation, together with or in consultation with your colleagues in the legal team
- Attend to and prepare for the possibility of audits and investigations by developing strategies, maintaining records and designing procedures
- Promote the company’s interests by developing relationships with agency representatives and contributing to public discourse around developments in laws, policies and enforcement
- Act as a dedicated sparring partner for the business, management and employees on compliance related topics
- Collaborate with other departments to create a culture of compliance,, ensure a solid and clear communication on the why, what, how to all impacted stakeholders
- Key compliance themes are Product regulatory compliance (e.g. CITES, Ivory, Diamonds, cultural heritage), Sanctions, Export Controls, Anti-Money Laundering, Code of Conduct, Anti-Corruption, Anti-Trust, Third Party Due Diligences, compliance management systems and compliance risk analyses.
- Perform compliance risk assessments to identify and understand the present risks (level), significance and scope of any relevant area of compliance or product or consumer related regulatory risk and ensure internal risk appetite alignment;
- Build the company compliance program and policies to ensure compliance with laws, regulations and contribute to robust and effective risk/compliance tools, controls and processes within the company
- Monitor compliance with laws, regulations and internal policies on a user, category or company level
- Ensure that your findings are recorded and followed up with management and solutions are proposed, so that issues can be rectified and proposals for improvements can be acted upon
- Investigate irregularities and non-compliance issues, come with recommendations and clear action plans for improvement or follow up and deliver results on these
- Report non-compliance to the regulatory or enforcement agencies, if and when needed, in collaboration with/after consultation with legal
- Assist in compliance audits (compiling reports and providing the requested information)

- A gatekeeper of “trust and compliance” for the company
- A passionate about integrity and proven track record of understanding impact of your discipline on company processes and stakeholders
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to connect with, and gain the respect of, stakeholders at all levels, including our executive team
- Process and people focussed
- Project management skills, as you're likely to have to juggle a number of projects at one time.
Requirements
- You are experienced in the field of Compliance Management
- An independent, goal-oriented and systematic way of working is what distinguishes you. You also have strong analytical and conceptual skills.
- In addition to assertiveness and teamwork skills, you have a positive, confident and open appearance and strong communication skills both verbally and in writing.
- You have a structured way of working to reach targeted results, have an eye for detail and you are able to also take an helicopter view. inspire, motivate and support more junior colleagues to succeed.
- You are characterized by a pronounced organizational skill.
- Flexibility and high operational readiness are just as important as a good command of the Dutch and English language.
- At least 8 years of proven professional experience in the field of compliance;
- Master degree in Law;
- Any compliance certification is a pre
- You are well aware of all relevant legal regulations (particularly local prosecution law, anti-trust regulations, US FCPA and UK Bribery Act) and can navigate confidently in a demanding and dynamic business context;
