Backend Engineer, Live Creation Tools

As announced in our recent acquisition of Locker Room, Spotify is accelerating its entry into the live audio space across a range of sports, music, and cultural programming. With this live audio platform, Spotify will redefine the way fans connect with digital taste-makers through highly-relevant, reactionary live content, and put the power to quickly and easily build spontaneous, interactive conversations in the hands of millions of emerging voices worldwide. We are looking for engineers to join our team and build out the backend of the Spotify Live experience. Because conversations happen in real time, we’re facing outstanding and technically exciting scaling challenges as our consumption grows. You will play an important part in building out our systems, implementing new product features, and working with engineers across the company.

What you'll do

• Design, build, test, and deploy scalable backend services that support Spotify Live
• Work with your engineering manager and product manager counterparts to review product specs and translate them to engineering tasks
• Contribute to tech specs to design scalable, observable, and maintainable systems
• Write maintainable code by following industry standard best practices
• Write documentation for APIs and your code
• Collaborate with SRE and data engineers to manage and evolve every part of our infrastructure including our CDN, file storage systems, databases (RDBMS, NoSQL, and BigQuery), data pipelines, and event producers/consumers
• Collaborate with client teams(web & mobile developers) in building product features

Who you are

• You have 3+ years of experience building backend systems
• You have experience working in Go/Java and have worked with Postgres and GCP (Docker + Kubernetes)
• Building performant apps that can scale
• Prior experience with Websockets, GraphQL, gRCP, Bigtable or Memcached is a plus, but not required - a desire to learn is enough
• You document your work and are a champion of documentation
• You are eager to learn and grow

• Working hours? We operate within the Eastern Standard time zone for collaboration and ask that all be located that time zone
