The Role: This position will serve as the manager of a small multi-disciplinary systems engineering team serving Integration Sales and Services and contributes technically as an active mechanical engineering team member. Contributions directly impact the success of all product lines and systems including YSI, Sontek, Aanderaa and other Xylem brands. This role reports directly to the Director, R&D – YSI.Essential Duties/Principal Responsibilities:
- Provide oversight for multi-disciplinary geographically dispersed team of technicians and engineers by:
- Working closely with team members by taking a hands-on approach to lead the execution of system integration into larger innovative product solutions, ensuring on-time, on-budget and high-quality system deliverables.
- Managing day-to-day tasks and performance of direct reports.
- Providing mentorship and constructive feedback to direct reports on completion of goals.
- Provide Mechanical Engineering skills towards completions of above responsibilities, using Solidworks, Oracle and documentation toolsets used in alignment with YSI Design to Release Process.
- Responsible for:
- Reviewing draft quotes from Sales including technical/time/resource/cost validation.
- Involvement in early evaluation of customer needs including pre-project feasibility studies for the more complex projects.
- Practical application engineering by collaboration with manufacturing, and validation with QA of all orders won.
- Support of installation/deployment, product usage and follow on support via collaboration with customer service team.
- Collaboration with QA, Marketing and Ops to help determine priorities for assignment of requests to direct reports for execution.
- Authority to sign an Engineering Change Order for all cross-functional discipline releases.
- Sit on the R&D Staff Management Team to provide transparency of project efforts and communicate needs and dependencies to R&D development/sustainment groups, science teams, and project managers.
- Responsible for driving new integration standard products, options and kits through EC process
- Focus efforts towards fast turnaround time to close open requests
- Assure the accuracy, clarity, internal integrity, consistency, and timeliness of all technical information submitted.
- Drive continuous improvements into engineering processes and policies.
- Provide interpretation, guidance and strategies on technologies and methodologies affecting product approvals, development and continued product compliance.
- Assessing and evaluating new and existing technologies that are opportunities or threats.
- Provides technical leadership in engineering tool sets, usage, training, and efficiency of team.
- Provide updates/reports to senior management.
- Work closely with relevant functional areas to achieve overall Engineer to Order success (operations/manufacturing and quality, marketing and sales, customer service, finance, and technical support).
- Assume other activities and responsibilities as directed.
Minimum Qualifications: Education, Experience, Skills, Abilities, License/Certification:
- Bachelors degree Engineering.
- 7+ years of hands on engineering or science work experience in a multidiscipline R&D environment.
- Supervisory experience is a plus.
- Proven ability to deliver new technology/products to the market.
- Strong leadership, analytical reasoning and team interaction skills.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Solidworks 2020+
- Ability to develop and deliver effective presentations.
- Ability to multi-task effectively.
- Participative management style that advocates team concept.
- Process & resource planning, with particular consideration to the challenges of creativity and innovation.
- Capable of using computer-based tools to facilitate responsibilities.
- Ability to recruit, train and motivate personnel in order to balance staffing strength with profitability and growth.
- Poise, good judgment and confidence to represent the Company.
- Ability to work with a diverse workforce and customer base.
