How You Will Make An Impact thredUP is looking for a partner to continue to drive the company’s accounting and close processes toward world-class performance. The Senior Director, Accounting Operations role will be a leader within the accounting and finance team with exposure to dynamic executives that have built an industry-leading company and brand in a market segment ready to explode. thredUP’s 2022 Resale Report ) The ideal candidate will have a mix of Big 4 and private industry experience, and will have managed, mentored, and developed staff members. This role will report directly to the VP, Corporate Controller in Oakland, California but will have a hybrid work arrangement.
In This Role You’ll Get To:
- Lead the month-end close process with the G/L team, including review of journal entries and account reconciliations
- Collaborate with accounting staff to review accounting close and reconciliation processes, resulting in reduction of time required to close and increased efficiency of close processes
- Provide oversight for consolidations processes, ensuring our international operations are accurately and efficiently integrated into our financial results and that foreign currency impacts are correctly accounted for
- Oversee AP, AR and expense reporting processes using Coupa and manage third party outsourced resources
- Oversee payroll and ensure timely payment of exempt and non-exempt workforce using ADP
- Direct team toward expansion of our internal reporting function, with scalable processes to generate timely financials and interface with department expense heads
- Work with external auditors to plan and support audit of financial statements
- Collaborate with our tax team to ensure that taxes are correctly accounted for and remitted
- Manage and mentor accounting staff for optimal performance and career growth
- Assist the Director, SEC Reporting and Technical Accounting in preparation of technical accounting memos as transactions arise, and incorporate new accounting pronouncements into operational processes
- Promote and maintain an effective internal control environment, helping in the ongoing implementation of and ongoing compliance with Sarbanes Oxley
- Provide guidance and oversight for process improvements in procure to pay and record to report optimizing existing SaaS tools such as NetSuite, Coupa, ADP and others
What We’re Looking For:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
- CPA certification
- 10-15 years of related experience with a combination of Big 4 and industry experience
- Demonstrated ability in process improvement and system implementation and optimization
- Creative problem solving skills
- Experience managing a staff of full time employees with varying levels of professional experience and coaching high performing team members
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely
- General ability to identify and navigate technical accounting areas such as debt, leases, stock based compensation, asset impairment
- Experience with an omni-channel ecommerce and retail company is a plus
- Experience with Netsuite, Coupa, ADP and Floqast a plus
