Job Description

Eaton's Electrical Services & Systems (EESS) team is looking to hire a Power Systems Controls Generator Paralleling Specialist to join our team. This position can be based remotely anywhere in the United States.

The Power Systems Controls (PSC) group is a full-service automation team. We have capabilities in design, engineering and commissioning of automation solutions for commercial, industrial, and utility grade power systems. Our team of engineers and technicians are experienced in a variety of power system applications and are responsible for implementing modern control designs for our customers.

The Power Systems Controls Generator Paralleling Specialist will lead the effort for overall design, marketing collateral, sales strategy, and implementation of generator paralleling switchgear for the Power Systems Controls team. This position will also drive joint development of paralleling switchgear with the major Eaton Low Voltage Assembly and Medium Voltage Assembly product lines, fostering relationships with product managers and product application engineers to ensure seamless integration of PSC’s controls with these factories. This position will also focus on training and support of PSC Negotiation Application Engineers, highlighting key features and market trends that will distinguish Eaton paralleling switchgear to our customers.

In this role you will:

  • Monitor market demands and competitor capabilities
  • Work with key NAS (North American Sales) application engineers to develop Eaton specifications for common/ repeatable solutions
  • Provide technical consultation to the PSC negotiation application engineering team for development of sales tools.
  • Provide application support for strategic and high visibility negotiation opportunities.
  • Send opportunities to PSC negotiation application engineers for formal proposal creation
  • Represent PSC in applicable Eaton marketing events and trade shows.
  • Support the design and standardization of common/ repeatable solutions.
  • Review standardized hardware based on supply, lead-time, cost, reliability, and engineering time efficiency.
  • Create standardized drawing packages, test documents, and O&M manuals for use by project engineers.
  • Define key features for Eaton’s base solutions and meet with PSC regional support engineers who will develop the programming for those key features.
  • Support project engineers on first-of-kind implementations
  • Participate in project kick-off meetings and provide project engineers with starting point drawings and documentation.
  • Review generator paralleling switchgear projects during submittal development
  • Provide assistance in critical customer FAT’s
  • Provide remote assistance to PSC engineers
  • Provide occasional on-site assistance for technical mentoring and safety mentoring of PSC engineers
  • Provide engineering and site support for local customers on all types of PSC work on an as needed basis.

Qualifications

Required (Basic) Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree from an accredited institution
  • Minimum of 4 years of power systems industry experience
  • Must be able to work in the United States without corporate sponsorship now and within the future.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution
  • Manufacturer training or extensive experience with one or more generator suppliers, including Caterpillar, Cummins, Kohler, MTU, and Generac.
  • Experience with generator paralleling switchgear design and installation experience, and experience creating standard documentation for generator paralleling switchgear.
  • Experience working directly with customers on a technical basis.
  • Experience providing technical guidance to sales engineers for quotation of automation solutions.

Position Criteria

  • Knowledge and understanding of best engineering practices for design of automation systems, power management systems, human-machine interface software, PLC programming, etc.
  • Knowledge and understanding of protection relays-based monitoring and control systems.
  • Understanding of the company’s and competitor’s automation systems and services.
  • Working knowledge of engine-generators and all related startup and maintenance activities.
  • Strong computer literacy - Working knowledge of all software packages relevant to successful performance of tasks.
  • Knowledge and practice of safety precautions related to working with automation and power systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide service and represent company interests in developing customer relationships to assure long-term customer satisfaction.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication/presentation skills
  • Experience managing own time, including administrative tasks, and prioritizes work to meet deadlines from multiple stake holders.

Eaton provides a competitive total rewards package commensurate with applicable skills, knowledge, and experience and consistent with internal and external market practices. The annual salary range for this role is $93,000 - $130,000 a year.
