PayPal’s Legal Team is looking for an experienced and dynamic trademark attorney to join its Intellectual Property team and lead its Trademark and Brand Protection program. In this role, you will work closely with a trademark paralegal and outside counsel in managing all aspects of PayPal’s global trademark portfolio, trademark enforcement program, and soft IP litigation (offensive and defensive). You will also work closely with attorneys across PayPal’s functions globally to provide strategic soft IP advice concerning product development, marketing and other matters. This position reports to the Senior Director, Head of IP.

Responsibilities

• Manage global trademark searches to identify availability of trademarks, taglines, product names, logos, and other consumer facing content, in coordination with our Trademark Paralegal
• Manage day-to-day prosecution of our global trademark applications in partnership with outside counsel and our Trademark Paralegal
• Collaborate with outside counsel to manage trademark opposition and cancellation actions, including review of watch notices
• Manage PayPal’s online trademark enforcement program, including review of potentially infringing content in collaboration with our Trademark Paralegal
• Function as a trusted adviser to PayPal’s brand and marketing teams
• Provide strategic advice on a wide range of soft IP issues (copyright, trademark, right of publicity, etc.) to PayPal’s global teams of attorneys and business partners in relation to product development and marketing
• Manage offensives and defensive soft-IP litigation in coordination with outside counsel
• Prepare and provide trainings and other presentations for internal stakeholders
• Drive special projects, including establishing strategies, guidelines, processes, and procedures, to enable the IP to provide best in class service to its business partners

Required Skills/Experience

• JD degree with excellent academic credentials
• 5+ years of experience at a law firm or comparable corporate environment
• In-house experience preferred but not required
• Must be a skilled oral and written communicator
• Creative thinker with strong problem-solving skills.
• Familiarity with, and strong interest in, PayPal, e-commerce, emerging payment technology and the payments industry
• Must be able to balance legal risks with business objectives in providing holistic advice
• The ideal candidate should have knowledge of PayPal’s products and services
• Prior experience in the financial services industry is a plus
• Strong project management skills, well organized, with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced work environment and manage numerous projects simultaneously under deadline pressure.
• Team oriented, unquestioned ethics and integrity, sound judgment and high tolerance for ambiguity.
