UW Medicine's Electronic Records and Health Information currently has an outstanding opportunity for an INTERNAL CONSULTANT .
This position is a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for healthcare related information, and acts as internal consultant for the content integrity of UW Medicine's electronic health record. This position is responsible for planning and implementing quantifiable business solutions for managing healthcare records and content, in collaboration with UW Medicine ITS, UW Medicine Compliance, and content creators and users. This position acts as an internal consultant to identify information management efficiencies and recommend improvements and solutions. This position is also responsible for training and educating EHRI staff and others in accurate and authentic healthcare record.
RESPONSIBILITES:
Acts as a SME on the systems and processes related to the accurate and reliable content of the electronic health record. Acts as internal consultant for content integrity of the electronic health record for Enterprise Records and Health Information, as well as for clinics and clinical departments throughout UW Medicine. Ensures collaborations between ERHI and clinics that lead to accurate and reliable data and documents in the electronic medical record (and in particular, Epic). This includes standards creation, representing information governance at committee meetings and in discussions with clinics and other content creators and users. Acts as a SME related to medical record content integrity and standards for legal and clinical purposes. Represents ERHI operational requirements to UW Medicine ITS and to vendors, including Epic and Hyland, related to electronic medical records. Collaborates with UW Medicine ITS regarding the planning, function, and use of the document management system (Onbase) that contributes to the electronic medical record. Manages document type standards that facilitate scanning and locating records in the electronic medical record.
Develops and delivers training, job aids, and other educational materials, as requested and needed, for ERHI staff and for UW Medicine staff regarding accurate and standard content of medical records. Develops and delivers processes and workflows related to medical record quality. Consults with ERHI staff, UW Medicine clinic staff and other clients regarding ways to assure accurate and reliable content. Responds to questions from ERHI staff and other clients regarding information governance and electronic health care records content.
Manages UW Medicine forms and the forms repository, including staffing a forms governance process that ensures forms are standard, necessary, and legal. Manages ERHI audit process required by The Joint Commission, which includes reports to medical center leadership. Performs other projects as assigned.
This position directly manages 1 Compliance Analyst, 1 Forms Analyst 2, and 1 Records Analyst 2.
Minimum Requirements:
Bachelor's Degree in Health Information Management or related field and five years of previous experience and knowledge with electronic medical records including Epic; knowledge and experience with applying professional standards and information governance principles toward electronic health records in higher education or an academic/teaching Medical Center/Hospital and five years managing significant components of a records or archives program. Additional qualifying experience may be substituted, year-for-year, for required education.
Certification in Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) or Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA).
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
Additional Department Requirements:
  • Knowledge and experience implementing projects and using Project Management principles and practices
  • Understanding of laws and accreditation governing healthcare; knowledge of HIPAA and HITECH;
  • Experience in the health care field; knowledge of medical terminology;
  • Proficiency in use of Microsoft Office
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Ability to manage time effectively and to work in a high volume, high accuracy work environment, and ability to meet deadlines under pressure
  • Ability to communicate effectively and to work in a collaborative team environment; strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively in person and in writing
  • Ability to build consensus and work collaboratively
  • Valid WA state drivers license
    Additional Department Conditions:
  • May work from home. Will be required to travel to other UW Medicine sites when necessary.
  • Ability to travel to multiple locations in the Puget Sound area for meetings and consultations is required. Travel must be in personal vehicle with an option to use a company care if available.
