Job Description

COVID-19 continues to significantly impact our employees, families and communities. With employee health and safety as our top priority, and as a federal contractor, Lockheed Martin is taking action to address the increased risk and uncertainty COVID-19 variants pose in the workplace and ensuring we meet our commitments to national security.
To uphold safety for all employees, we will continue to request vaccination status for all Lockheed Martin employees including new hires. All current and newly hired employees are required to follow onsite safety measures based upon the COVID-19 Community Level at the specific work location.
Description:The wiring design engineer will be responsible for the electrical design, mechanical design, engineering, test and installation support of wiring harness for flight and/or ground support. The individual will work with program engineers to define the design for the wiring harnesses, document the design in a Zuken and CAD model, and coordinate with manufacturing of the harnesses with production.
Selected candidate will be performing electrical/mechanical engineering design tasks relating to wire harness/cable design and interconnecting of electronic equipment. Areas of responsibilities include: detailed component performance spec (PS) and Interface Control Drawing (ICD) interpretation, including assembly manufacturing drawings, parts lists, cable design, and engineering change support. Support program planning from a cost, technical and schedule perspective, conceptual design, trade studies, drawing generation and documentation release, and testing requirements. Selected candidate will also interface with other disciplines, such as Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering and Quality to ensure program requirements are being met. Candidate must provide support to both in-house and outside cable manufacture and fabrication.
Engineering Liaison – Coordinates with design engineers for common parts, common processes (i.e. shielding terminations, wire grouping, taping, etc.) and DFx for harnesses assemblies. Transcribes engineering intent into manufacturing processes to assure hardware is built as the designer expected it to be. Converts models into flat layouts for highly flexible assemblies to assure harnesses are built to proper lengths and breakouts occur at the correct locations.
Form board/Mock-up designer – Designs 3D mock-ups from engineering drawings and models to represent spacecraft configurations to assure as-built harnesses fit up and attach to actual spacecraft without the need for rework or redressing of connectors and routing. Design the mock-up out of 80/20 material, plywood and dimensional lumber and 3D printed materials. Assists in the build of mock-ups and verifies they are dimensionally correct prior to the start of harness builds.
Test Cable designer – Designs test harnesses utilized in continuity, isolation and high-potential testing of deliverable flight and ground harnesses.
Estimator – Perform estimates from engineering concepts, preliminary designs and released engineering drawings for proposals efforts utilizing the harnesses estimating tool. Update the estimating tool based on actual costs incurred during hardware builds to assure accurate future estimates for proposed work.
3D modeling and printing – Create models for 3D printing for holding fixtures, shop aids, shipping fixtures, mock-ups and form boards. Print modeled parts and verify they perform the desired function.
Basic Qualifications:
• Must have demonstrated 8 years of experience in electrical/mechanical design engineering, including wire harness/cable design and electronic equipment interfacing
• Candidate must demonstrate working knowledge and minimum of 1-2 years utilization of CAD/CAM drawing tools for schematic capture of wiring diagrams
• Candidate must be familiar with design of electrical interconnects for satellite spacecraft equipment
• Must have experience working with equipment performance specs, wire drawing lists (WCL's), schematics, and related cabling and harnessing documentation
• Must have strong interpersonal and organizational skills
• Excellent communication skills (technical writing and presentation)
Desired skills are additional skills that are nice to have and help narrow down a qualified candidate pool.
Desired skills :
• Hands-on experience with spacecraft design and integration is desired
• Experience with satellite flight specification including cable and harness design, electronic equipment, electrical/mechanical design is desired
• Knowledge of CAD schematic capture tool, and/or familiarity with Zuken E3 cable tools, familiarity with CAD/CAM programs, including Pro-E and Pro-E Cabling and Enterprise Product Data Management (EPDM) release process
