Job Description

The Associate Director of Food and Drink will oversee Mintel’s food and drink, foodservice Reports, providing insight and competitive analysis across scheduled deliverables, engage in client and industry presentations, and manage a small team.

The Associate Director is an experienced, motivated Analyst who has the knowledge and the talent to push Mintel’s Reports forward. This person will apply his/her extensive industry knowledge and critical thinking to quantitative and qualitative research and will work closely with our other analysts to deliver compelling syndicated and custom reports to a wide range of the world’s largest and most creative companies.

What you will be doing:

  • This role is comprised of content creation, client facing work, and management of analyst team and the deliverables the team creates
    • Develop and manage Mintel’s food and drink, foodservice Reports, working to elevate Mintel’s role as a leader in insight and data, championing the proprietary research that enriches our deliverables
    • Work collaboratively across teams and functions within the organization
  • Management:
    • Oversee small team of analysts, ensuring that Reports are produced in a timely manner, with relevant analysis that includes both a consumer and market perspective
    • Consult with Analysts throughout the Reports process to ensure that thinking and data are accurate and relevant to our client-base
    • Coach team to provide insight around key trends and consumer behavior in written content as well as direct to clients via in-person, phone and webinar interactions
    • Work with Analysts, internal statisticians, consumer research team and external data providers to develop market data and insightful consumer research
  • Content Creation:
    • Combine management element of the role with a demanding writing schedule, creating Reports that demonstrate the best of Mintel’s thinking on consumer behavior and markets.
    • Provide insights directly to clients around key trends and product activity, in-person and via webinars.
    • Provide critical thinking, insight and forward looking statements that influence our clients’ business/careers.

Who we are looking for:

  • Insights-led: You should have at least 5 years’ experience in consumer research, marketing or consulting role and proven expertise in cross-category mind-set, ideally accumulated from the industry/client side
  • Observant: You have passion for, and knowledge of consumer markets (by passion we mean the sensitivity to what’s happening in the market through observation, and the patience to study deep into a subject), for both high-end luxury markets and lower tier city opportunities
  • Naturally Curious: You are naturally curious and great at navigating internal and external data, asking second and third level questions to see the patterns behind data to craft expert analysis to be used in a business setting.
  • Logical thinking: You are equipped with strong analytical skills, critical thinking, attention to detail
  • A food lover: You enjoy going offsite to observe and understand new trends in the market, via exhibitions and store visits and obtaining good knowledge of updated marketing events and trends among Food and Drinks topics
  • Business acumen: You are able to develop insights that have meaningful business implications
  • Detailed Organizer: You have good organizational and planning skills and the ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Coach: You encourage and boost the team's confidence by sharing new ideas and being a good listener. You seek opportunities to mentor junior team members while seeking out new challenges for yourself.
