Job Description

Description:The Crater Packer is located at the Michoud Assembly Facility (MAF) in New Orleans, LA.
Responsibilities include:
- Prepare outbound shipments including air and ground shipments of hazardous and non-hazardous products.
- Provide crating & packing operations and preparation of non-standard crates and boxes for all LM programs at MAF.
- Operates various types of material handling equipment as required in the performance of crating and packing duties.
- Package material by blocking, tying down, padding, securing, bracing or other means to avoid damage.
- May build special crating, fixtures and bracing for shipping of unusual or large items when standard boxes and crates cannot be used.
- May prepare materials such as flight hardware parts, assemblies and tooling for special shipment.
- May coordinate loading or offloading of unusual items requiring special handling techniques.
The ability to attain Certification in IATA/ICAO (International Air Transportration Association / International Civil Aviation Organization) and DOT CFR-49 (Department of Transportation Code of Federal Regulations) is required to perform these duties.
Basic Qualifications:
- Knowledge of crating, packing and loading techniques.
- Skills in standard hand and power woodworking tools and pallet banding equipment.
- Experience using walking stacker/folklift and ability to obtain certification.
- Familiarity with and ability to obtain certification in IATA/ICAO and DOT CFR-49.
- Ability to read and understand simple drawings, utilize math for measuring stock and laying out cuts and checking dimensions.
- Valid driver's license.
Desired Skills:
- Knowledge of hazardous materials handling, packaging and shipping.
- Previous experience with flight hardware packaging and/or sensitive equipment\\items and transportation requirements/procedures.
