PayPal’s Blockchain, Crypto and Digital Currencies (BCDC) business unit is focused on ensuring end-to-end management of PayPal’s underlying product, technology infrastructure, partnerships and regulatory foundations for digital assets to lead the way to a more affordable, efficient, and inclusive digital financial system with a vision of an open financial system where everyone can participate. As a member of PayPal’s BCDC unit, you will help shape the foundation for the next generation of financial services. You will work with a globally distributed, diverse, cross-functional team to create a more accessible, efficient, and inclusive way to perform commerce. PayPal seeks a senior professional with experience in business development experience will part of our Global Market and Business Development Team and collaborate with various stakeholders to drive strategic expansion of the cryptocurrency services. The Head of Business Development for BCDC will report to BCDC Senior Leadership and will be a critical component of BCDC’s efforts to establish and maintain large scale strategic partnerships and commercial arrangements that help drive key strategic initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead negotiations with potential external partner and other ecosystem participants, engaging with various internal colleagues to ensure successful delivery of solutions for large complex matters
  • Manage key existing partnerships on behalf of the BCDC business unit
  • Identify and explore opportunities for partnerships and collaborations in the blockchain and cryptocurrency space
  • Serve as the BCDC subject matter expert of PayPal’s cryptocurrency products and capabilities and work with PayPal’s robust global merchant account and sales team

Ideal Experience

  • Deep business development, negotiation, legal and/or regulatory experience, especially in fintech or payments and with an international component
  • Knowledge of blockchain and cryptocurrency industry/ecosystem, particularly in retail crypto services
  • Demonstrated business and product knowledge inside the payments ecosystem. Data-driven decision making and customer/ partner centricity
  • Knowledge and ability to handle external stakeholders. Accountability and orientation to results.
  • Demonstrated success negotiating and delivering high-impact partnerships that achieve measurable results

  • Problem solving mindset
  • Demonstrates accountability, attention to detail and ability to handle complex situations with multiple workstreams and internal/external stakeholders.
  • Empathy and ability to address problems from the partner and end-user point of view
  • Initiative and ownership to resolve day to day obstacles and judgment to escalate where/as needed

Domain expertise and technical skills

  • Deep product/business/legal/regulatory knowledge on payments and fintech
  • Familiarity with negotiation techniques, IP considerations and ability to maintain in sight the final goal of the deal partnering without letting it get lost in the details.
  • Knowledge of blockchain, cryptocurrency, digital currencies
  • Excellent ability to deliver results in a very fast-paced and dynamic environment
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to work across the organization and interact/influence/negotiate effectively at all levels of management and peers
  • Passion to make a difference on people’s lives through financial services
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
