Job Description

We’re working on a Splinter Cell remake, assembling a team with passion, drive and respect for the trifocal goggles. This is an opportunity to be part of a treasured franchise, rebuilt on Ubisoft’s Snowdrop engine to deliver next-generation visuals and modernized stealth gameplay, while preserving what's at the heart of the Splinter Cell experience.
On being a Tools Support Specialist at Ubisoft Toronto
The Tools Support Specialist will provide front-line support to a team of users who depend on production tools, serving as the first point-of-contact for technical knowledge and troubleshooting.
Working in an environment that combines various languages (C#, Python, JavaScript), video game production tools (Game Editor, VCS, DCC Tools), and modern DevOps practices, you will be monitoring project support channels, documenting issues and their respective solutions, while serving the project’s streamlined strategy for support.
Tools Support Specialists will develop automated scripts to promote a self-service framework of support, in order to reduce daily toil. Together with the Build & Release Specialists, Tools Support Specialists help drive the project support strategy by configuring and maintaining automated tests deployed on the build system. They will develop expertise of tools as end-user specialists, providing insight about their usability, UI, and UX, and later make contributions to their development.

The daily life of a Tools Support Specialist at Ubisoft Toronto

  • Write automation scripts for common support requests to promote a self-service support experience, improving project productivity and reducing daily toil
  • Monitor the support channel and provide first-contact technical support to a large, multidisciplinary team
  • Configure and maintain automated tests deployed on the build system
  • Provide feedback about the usability, UI and UX of tools as end-user experts, and later contribute to their development
  • Document common troubleshooting techniques and how-to tutorials to facilitate communication and knowledge sharing, improving the quality of life for all users
  • Administer project permissions as an administrator of production tools
  • Provide testing and workflow knowledge for Engine and Tools teams
  • Provide issue, bug, and work-around knowledge for Art teams
  • Triage a breadth of technical issues and communicate their impact with technical and non-technical teams
  • Apply logical problem solving to resolve issues
  • Recommend long-term approaches to avoiding or minimizing technical issues

Qualifications

What it takes to make it

  • Programming knowledge and experience with code debugging tools and workflows (C#, Python, JavaScript, PowerShell)
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Knowledge of version control systems and ticketing/management software (Perforce & Git / JIRA)
  • Experience with an Editor/Engine combo (Unity/Unreal or other)
  • Experience with 3D modeling tools (3ds Max, Maya, Motionbuilder, Blender)
  • Knowledge of Active Directory, permission granting and other administration concepts
  • Knowledge of Networking, Filesystem, Driver and Windows OS principles/issues
  • QA, Release/Build, Render Wrangler or other Support background
  • Understanding of and desire to know how things work
  • Ability to assess significance and impact of bugs/missing features
  • Methodical, autonomous and resourceful approach
  • Cloud experience (OpenStack) a plus
  • Non-PC build experience (PlayStation, Xbox, Mobile Platforms) a plus
  • Familiarity with non-graphical Linux OS (SSH, Putty, and console) a plus
  • Visualization and Reporting experience (ELK, Splunk, Tableau, D3 etc.) a plus
