Job Responsibilities As a Mechanical Engineering Manager at Viasat you will be responsible for developing a wide range of hardware for testing and troubleshooting our highly regarded commercial, military and space products. You will manage a team of Mechanical Engineers & Mechanical Designers which produce hardware test solutions such as test fixture and interface test adapter (ITA) designs. In this role you will work closely with the test and R&D teams on continuing to build our test capabilities for new products while improving existing test devices and methods. Your ability to work independently as well as in a team environment, in a fast paced, rapidly changing, short turn-around environment will be key factor to the success of the team. You’ll be asked to contribute to program responsibilities to include proposal efforts, requirements definition, conceptual design, tradeoffs, detailed design and drawings, prototype build, integration and test. The Mechanical Engineering Manager is a key leadership figure who is approachable and a ‘go to’ person. The role encompasses two aspects, to lead and mentor a team of highly skilled Mechanical Engineers & Designers and, secondly, work as an individual contributor developing hardware test solutions. • BA/BS degree in Mechanical Engineering
• 8+ years of Mechanical Engineering experience
• 3+ years of experience with direct management of engineering development projects and resources
• Proven history in creating/maintaining an inclusive environment that values diverse thoughts and perspectives
• Ability to work independently and knows when to ask for help
• Proven ability to provide day-to-day technical guidance, direction and coordination of engineers ensuring the team is heading in a common direction
• Expertise coordinating engineering efforts and forecasting of project resources to ensuring achievement of milestones
• Proven track record of managing resources supporting multiple projects and programs, problem solving, interfacing with internal customers, making trade off decisions
• Proven history completing designs that meet performance, cost, and manufacturability goals
• Proven history of simulation for Vibration and Thermal
• Strong written, and verbal communication skills, team player
• History of participating in cross functional design reviews, providing constructive feedback and suggestions
• Expertise with design verification
• Strong SolidWorks and ePDM experience
• Experience designing with and reviewing ASME 14.5 GD&T documentation
• 90% Remote 10% in office
• US Citizenship
• Up to 10% Travel
