The Role We’re looking for a Tax and Compliance Manager to join our growing Accounting and Finance team. This role will be critical to supporting our growth and will have a significant impact on our company, with the opportunity to work on multiple projects, solve ambiguous problems, and implement novel accounting policies and procedures. The ideal candidate must thrive in a fast-paced start-up environment, work cross-functionally, and be adaptable to changing responsibilities and priorities.

What You’ll Do

    • Manage tax planning and strategies to support the evolution of the tax reporting function, tax technology tools, and technological enhancements
    • Create and maintain proper tax compliance internal policies and documentation
    • Assist in the preparation and/or review of the US Federal and State Income Tax Return(s) in collaboration with the Company’s tax consulting firm
    • Manage the Company's annual and quarterly tax provision (ASC 740) procedures
    • Prepare and/or review tax return adjustments, including related analysis, forms, and disclosures based on prescribed laws and regulations
    • Tracking and generating responses to notices/audits regarding federal, state, and local tax issues
    • Partner with internal stakeholders (Finance/Accounting, FP&A, Engineering, Product, Legal, and HR) to support the integration of Avalara tax software into our Netsuite ERP system
    • Work with inventory and procurement managers to maintain accurate and reliable data and information related to tax basis, regular tax depreciation, and AMT
    • Conduct various tax research projects, analyze the income tax implications of any new tax legislation, and document analysis of technical accounting on tax issues
    • Maintain all tax-related system changes in NetSuite and Avalara
    • Register in any new US states where sales tax nexus has been met, and keep up to date with any new sales tax law changes and sales tax rate updates
    • Manage tax account maintenance including setting up new accounts, filing business registrations, licensing renewals, and annual reports for all in-scope states and metros
    • Participate in and lead special, ad-hoc projects related to accounting, finance, tax, and prepare for public-company readiness
    • Navigate and participate in creating our new internal tax team structure while being proactive with feedback on your experience and being comfortable with the fluidity of a start-up environment

What You Bring

    • Significant experience in tax compliance and accounting with a mix of public accounting and in-house experience
    • CPA preferred
    • Significant experience and understanding of ASC 740 & multi-state sales tax
    • Comprehensive accounting experience
    • Experience in working with an ERP system (Netsuite), including successfully enhancing and streamlining processes
    • Experience with technical accounting and financial reporting concepts, including US GAAP and internal control best practices
    • Experience and proficiency in preparing tax workpapers supporting a variety of federal adjustments, including complex calculations
    • Intermediate to advanced MS Excel and presentation skills
    • Experience in proactively identifying and leading new project initiatives
    • Entrepreneurial spirit and solution-oriented focus, proposing new solutions to problems and processes, and providing management with information key to the decision-making process
    • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment with strong ownership of your own function while simultaneously working well within a high-functioning team environment
    • Excellent organizational, technical, analytical, problem-solving abilities with attention to detail
