As our quest to democratise financial services continues at blazing speed, Zettle's Point of Sale (POS) Alliance is looking for a passionate Backend Software Engineer to join our Connect Partners team.

As part of our Point of Sale Alliance, the Connect Partners Team has a wide remit, covering 3rd party integrations with our POS, to creating developer tools that we aspire to be seen as best in class. In other words, this position is a unique opportunity for you to join an agile, innovative, cross-functional team, helping to enable developers from all around the world to build innovative new experiences, powered by Zettle and PayPal.

At Zettle, we believe in using the best tools and we continuously review our toolkit, architecture and ways of working. Today, our Tech Stack includes Java 17, Kotlin, Dropwizard, Ktor, Docker, Terraform, PostgreSQL, and everything is hosted on Amazon Web Services (AWS).

You will have a mission to architect and develop new systems, write clean code, build infrastructure, and monitor our systems. Your day-to-day life would include:

• Working in an agile team to design, implement, and maintain simple and reliable features, with a high level of autonomy.
• Collaborating with Tech Leads, other Teams, and Developers across the whole Backend Chapter - including code reviews, show-and-tells, and mob programming sessions.
• Experimenting and learning about system design, new technologies, and refining our processes, in the spirit of continuous improvement.
• Ensuring a high level of quality, usability, and maintainability of the systems and components that you build, through the use of unit and automated testing.

The skills & traits to succeed

• Great communication and collaboration skills, combined with a desire to be part of a truly Agile environment.
• A team player mindset, and a willingness to continuously learn and share your knowledge: you're known for being reliable, curious, and bold, and always consider the next developers when you’re building things.
• Proven experience in Backend Development, ideally with Java 8+ and SQL experience.
• Experience of building and maintaining quality, standardized, RESTful APIs, and a good knowledge of Microservice architecture patterns.

Earn extra points if you are...

• Familiar with Kotlin or willing to learn – most of our new systems use it.
• Familiar with cloud platforms – we use AWS for almost all our systems.
• Experienced in Fintech or/and Financial services.
