Reporting to the CFO, the Staff Accountant will be responsible for ensuring that review of and payment to unenrolled charities are done efficiently and comprehensively. This role will touch on full cycle accounting functions including check processing, journal entry posting, reconciliations, resolving discrepancies and assisting with the month end close. Additionally, the Staff Accountant will manage corporate cross-border transactions and provide support to PayPal Giving Fund’s global accounting team as needed.

Role Description

Reporting to the CFO, the Staff Accountant will be responsible for ensuring that review of and payment to unenrolled charities are done efficiently and comprehensively. This role will touch on full cycle accounting functions including check processing, journal entry posting, reconciliations, resolving discrepancies and assisting with the month end close. Additionally, the Staff Accountant will manage corporate cross-border transactions and provide support to PayPal Giving Fund’s global accounting team as needed.

Overview of Responsibilities

Check Processing

  • Perform monthly reviews of all charities that clear AML compliance and update PPGF charity records in PayPal Cause Admin and SAP accordingly
  • Manage the check payment process in Australia, reviewing key SLAs and coordinating all necessary approvals
  • Align with Australia’s Operations Lead on address cleansing before check batch posting to ensure payments are remitted to the intended recipients
  • Void checks in SAP and place stop payments with the bank for newly enrolled charities, expired checks, or specific customer requests
  • Analyze aging reports with Accounting Manager to ensure compliance of check policies
  • Perform weekly check reconciliation in SAP
  • Liaise with Australia customer service team to resolve check discrepancies and escalations

Accounting

  • Assist with month end close activities, including processing PPGF Australia payroll, benefits administration, and accounts payable activities
  • Manage cross border/corporate ‘give and hold’ accounts
  • Responsible for the reconciliation of cash accounts
  • Assist the Senior Accountant on “Reassignment of Funds” process due to failed payouts
  • Review “Holds” list to determine removal, payment, or reassignment of funds per PayPal Giving Fund’s payment and reassignment policies
  • Review and process assigned escalations and JIRA tickets

Process Improvement

  • Track performance across countries on accounting ticket SLAs and fix any issues that arise
  • Suggest, plan, and help to implement process improvements and automations to reduce manual processes and risk of manual errors

The Staff Accountant will also be expected to perform other duties deemed necessary to support the effective operations of the organization.

Qualifications

The Staff Accountant will be an efficient and fastidious worker. S/he must have experience in prompt and accurate data logging, as well as familiarity with the basic rules and operations of non-profit accounting.

The Staff Accountant will have the following experience and attributes:

  • A minimum of a BS in Accounting or related field, or equivalent work experience (CPA preferred).
  • Excel power user, including familiarity with formulas, pivot tables, and vlookups.
  • Experience working in accounting software is required; SAP and SAP S4Hana preferred
  • Experience with cross border funds flows and inter-company transactions
  • Experience with a help desk ticketing system; JIRA preferred.
  • Familiarity with rules governing charitable solicitation, compliance, and PayPal products.
  • Must be willing to work flexible hours in order to meet with Australian team members and business partners.
  • Experience working in an hybrid environment
