OVERVIEW

Braze is looking for a Corporate Counsel to join our dynamic and rapidly growing EMEA legal team. You will be based out of our Berlin office in Germany, as our first hire for the EMEA legal team outside of our London HQ, and will report to the VP Legal, Privacy and Legal Ops based in London. Your role will consist of drafting and negotiating complex commercial contracts, including in particular software-as-a-service (“SaaS”) master subscription agreements and data processing addenda. You will also have the opportunity to work on a variety of other legal issues as the team touches upon corporate, IP, employment, dispute, marketing, supplier terms, and more, however you will be part of the commercial legal team and the role is primarily focused on handling commercial transactions and interactions with sales teams, prospects and customers.

While based in Germany, the scope of the role will require interacting with teams in other Braze offices. You will need to effectively collaborate with colleagues around the company to solve intricate problems.

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING
  • Draft, review and negotiate a variety of commercial agreements to support our sales teams in Germany and the rest of the EMEA region.
  • Your primary focus will be on SaaS subscription agreements, data processing addenda and order forms, but you will also assist as needed in the review of vendor or supplier agreements, employment and corporate matters for the DACH region.
  • Provide practical legal advice to teams in Germany, including Sales, Marketing, People, and other teams as this office grows, that balances business objectives and legal risk, taking into account company policies and positions.
  • Stay up-to-date on relevant industry, commercial, privacy and other German and EU laws, regulations, and developments to be able to give the most effective advice.
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

The successful candidate will:

  • Be qualified to work as a lawyer in Germany with at least 5 years of work experience, tech/SaaS is a plus.
  • Have a strong experience in contract negotiation, both in English and German.
  • Have experience explaining data privacy and information security terms and concepts (including knowledge of GDPR), and ideally have or be willing to obtain a privacy certification, such as the CIPP/E.
  • Have in-house experience supporting sales teams preferred.
  • You can manage multiple projects at once and will follow through, meet deadlines and take full responsibility for structuring and prioritising your time.
  • You thrive in a fast-paced environment, enjoy a challenge, are self-motivated, go the extra mile, and are willing to learn, pitch in and play a significant role.
  • Have excellent negotiation, drafting, analytical and communication skills.
  • Have sound judgement to interpret complicated matters and work with key stakeholders towards resolution.
  • Be passionate about understanding the tech world.
  • Have a fantastic sense of humour.
