What's a typical day like at Comcast? Transcript

Start out in the morning, make my lunch, my tea. I love old lady hobbies. I love to cross stitch and cook. Hi. I'm Krista Loughton. I'm a communications technician for Comcast. I am responsible from the pole to inside the home so I can run the cable set up a new install, make sure everything's working if I have a trouble call and I actually just learned how to do home security. "Hi, I'm crystal Comcast." I really like the aspect of helping people. So to be able to go into people's homes and make their day better. Everybody relies on the internet and cable so to be able to go in and help them get them back up and running smoothly is great. Go into houses where they've had our equipment and they just don't know how to use it. it, is my favorite is being able to show them the little tricks to get things to to work the way they're supposed to for them. "Let me show you some of the great features of the new remote." We learned everything in class. I have no technical background prior to three years ago when I started, so they teach you how, how something works, how to plug it in, how to take your ladder off of the van because at first I left and I was like um just magic, does it get up there? And then after a handful of times you're like, oh this is nothing I can swing it around, takes a couple days to get used to it. But it's all learned memory, be patient with yourself, learn what you need to learn. Ask questions. There's always somebody who's gonna know more than you, reach out to them. I get two different reactions from people. You get the, 'Oh, you're a woman, that's great. I had no idea that someone could do that.' And then you get the 'You sure you know what you're doing, You're not a man.' It's always surprising to me that people are surprised. It's a female. I feel like anybody can do anything. It's my career. I love it. But I would never think that my my gender limited me on what you can and cannot do. It's a fantastic job opportunity and there's so much room to grow. I'd love to, you know, eventually a team leader and my team leaders are working with me. I see myself here for, for the duration. I love my job. It's always changing.
