About the Role At thredUP, the accounting team is all about working together to solve problems and improve processes. As a Senior Revenue Accountant, you will take an ownership role in ensuring that revenue is properly accounted for under ASC 606. You will help drive monthly and quarterly close activities, perform the validation and reconciliation of revenue and revenue related accounts, analyze data, and prepare reports for auditors and management. You will assist in implementing tools and processes to improve efficiency and timely delivery of revenue and related accounts. Responsibilities
- Responsible for monthly revenue close process, including core marketplace and RAAS related journal entries and reconciliations.
- Participate in technical review of company contracts and revenue activity to ensure proper revenue recognition in accordance with company policy and applicable accounting standards including ASC 606.
- Responsible for non-revenue general ledger responsibilities as needed to support overall success in month end close and financial reporting.
- Assist in the preparation of quarterly account level fluctuation analyses and SSP (Standalone Selling Price) analysis.
- Use querying software (Looker) to extract large volumes of data from our home-grown e-commerce database; analyze and validate/ corroborate data against third-party information.
- Work with our Fintech team and business partners on system enhancements, automation, and other process improvements in the areas of revenue, billing, and payment processing.
- Promote and maintain an effective internal control environment, helping in the ongoing implementation of Sarbanes Oxley.
- Assist in external audits, including delivery of initial information requests to auditors and pulling sample request documentation.
- Participate in ad hoc projects as necessary.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Economics, or Finance
- 5+ years of experience with a combination of Big 4 Public Accounting (Preferred) and industry
- Understanding of ASC 606 revenue recognition principles and ability to navigate guidance and apply it to business practices for accounting conclusions
- Acute sense of detail for data accuracy and integrity
- Embrace ambiguity and push through challenges for positive outcomes
- Experience with payment processors such as Braintree, American Express, Paypal, etc. is preferred
- Experience with large data and translation of database reporting to form journal entries, reports and account reconciliations is highly preferred
- CPA certification preferred
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely
- E-commerce and Retail experience is a plus
- Proficiency with Excel is a must (e.g., Pivot table, vlookup, sumif, iferror, etc.)
