Providence is calling a Medical Lab Technician, Medical Technologist I, or Medical Technologist 2 to its Clinical Laboratory Team at Providence Medford Medical Center in Medford, OR. This is a full-time, night shift position. The schedule will consist 10 hour shifts, with shift start times as early as 7pm, and end times as late as 5:30am. We are flexible with scheduling and can offer a 7 straight work day on, and 7 straight work days off! $6,000 hiring bonus and relocation assistance for eligible external candidates who meet all conditions for payment - this is in addition to the fantastic benefits and compensation package offered by Providence that begin on your first day of employment.

Description:

We are seeking a Medical Technologist or Medical Lab Technician - Clinical Laboratory that will be responsible for the accurate and timely reporting of high complexity laboratory test results with minimal supervision. MT/CLS JRN personnel are capable of performing pre-analytical, analytical and post-analytical duties including specimen evaluation, data analysis, and instrument maintenance and problem resolution. They often work with acute-care and outpatient caregivers, along with other Laboratory Services staff in performing their duties.

As a Medical Lab Technician you will have the following responsibilities:

• Demonstrates competency in compliance as required by the PHS Laboratory Compliance Plan.
• Responsible for the accurate and timely reporting of patient results in pre-analytical, analytical and post-analytical phases of specimen analysis.
• Demonstrates participation in Quality Assessment processes, incorporates continuous quality improvement into practice.
• Demonstrates the ability to perform Quality Control analysis and instrument troubleshooting.
• Demonstrates effective problem-solving skills.
• Ability to prioritize work and manage time effectively and efficiently in order to meet department turn-around-time goals.
• Ability to communicate successfully with the health care team, supporting quality improvement and improved customer service.
• May be required to perform phlebotomy and processing of specimens in the small and rural areas.

As a Medical Technologist 1 you will have the following responsibilities:

• Accurately follows the procedures for specimen handling and processing, test analyses, recording and reporting patient test results.
• Conducts established quality control (QC) procedures on analytical equipment, reagents, media and products with appropriate documentation.
• Correlates clinical, clerical and technical data.
• Reviews and evaluates test results for accuracy.
• Recognizes testing problems including unexpected results or abnormal relationships of analytes and alerts senior personnel regarding discrepancy.
• Recognizes and resolves instrument errors or sample problems; initiating and documenting corrective action.
• May be required to perform phlebotomy and processing of specimens in the Small and Rural areas.
• Takes appropriate action on specimens with critical values and/or abnormal results.
• Performs instrument maintenance and troubleshooting with appropriate documentation.
• Maintains appropriate levels of immediate supplies and reagents.
• Performs special projects under direction of senior personnel.
• Promptly and accurately documents problems and any corrective action taken using appropriate forms, logs, etc.
• Participates in department meetings, responds to electronic communications (e-mail).
• Participates in group meetings or activities to identify, analyze, and resolve technical and procedural issues.
• Mentors newer staff/students.

As a Medical Technologist 2 you will have the following responsibilities:

• Accurately follow the procedures for specimen handling and processing, test analyses, recording and reporting patient test results
• Conduct established quality control (QC) procedures on analytical equipment, reagents, media and products with appropriate documentation
• Correlate clinical, clerical and technical data
• Review and evaluate test results for accuracy
• Recognize testing problems including unexpected results or abnormal relationships of analytes and alerts senior personnel regarding discrepancy
• Recognize and resolve instrument errors or sample problems; initiating and documenting corrective action
• May be required to perform phlebotomy and processing of specimens in the Small and Rural areas
• Is able to engage productively in the evaluation of quality improvement opportunities
• Take appropriate action on specimens with critical values and/or abnormal results
• Assist in the mentoring and training of new caregivers in the department
• Monitor the laboratory’s quality control functions by reviewing the quality control data and evaluating possible trends
• Ability to convey principles/methods of testing to other caregivers and care providers
• Assist in evaluating and documentation of technical personnel competency
• Possibly to perform phlebotomy and processing of specimens in all areas

Qualifications:

Required qualifications for a Medical Lab Technician include:

• Certification or Registry (MLT,CLT) from a government agency or nationally recognized professional organization (e.g.. ASCP, NCA, etc.), OR Eligible for Certification or Registry.
• Must obtain certification within 6 months of hire. (During this period new hire will be placed at the trainee rate).
• In Compliance with the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC), criminal background check and fingerprinting may be required for this position, based on assigned duties. Involves only those positions at PPMC operating the blood irradiator machine.

Required qualifications for a Medical Technologist 1 include:

• Technologist/Scientist certification or registry (e.g. MT,MLS, MB) from a government agency or nationally recognized professional organization (eg. ASCP, NCA, etc.) OR eligible for Certification or Registry.
• Must obtain certification within 6 months of hire.
• ASCP certification obtained after 1/1/2004 must be renewed every three (3) years
• ASCP certification obtained prior to 1/1/2004 require no renewal
• In Compliance with the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC), criminal background check and fingerprinting may be required for this position, based on assigned duties. Involves only those positions at PPMC operating the blood irradiator machine.

Required qualifications for a Medical Technologist 2 include:

• Bachelor's Degree in Chemical, Physical, Biological, -OR- Clinical Laboratory Sciences
• Technologist/Scientist certification or registry (e.g. MT,MLS, MB) from a government agency or nationally recognized professional organization (eg. ASCP, NCA, etc.)
• ASCP certification obtained after 1/1/2004 must be renewed every three (3) years
• ASCP certification obtained prior to 1/1/2004 require no renewal
• One (1) year of experience as a Medical Laboratory Scientist in a department in the laboratory or exceeds principal duties and functions in the MLS I job description
• In Compliance with the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC), criminal background check and fingerprinting may be required for this position, based on assigned duties, involves only those positions at PPMC operating the blood irradiator machine

Preferred qualifications for this position include:

• Bachelor's Degree in Medical Laboratory Science from a NAACLS accredited MLS program
• One (1) Three (3) years of Clinical laboratory experience in a moderate and high complexity laboratory
