Description:

Providence is calling a Respiratory Therapist (Respiratory Therapy, Day Shift, 0.1 FTE - On Call) to St Elias Specialty Hospital in Anchorage, Alaska. In this position you will have the following responsibilities:

  • TECHNICAL EXPERTISE:
  • Perform mechanical ventilation set-ups, monitoring, assessment of equipment/patient interfaces, and makes appropriate changes based on ABGs for adult ventilators
  • Perform bedside PFTs
  • Maintain current ABG certification
  • Must be able to perform a complete respiratory assessment and make recommendations/changes based on the assessment, as allowed by protocols and hospital/department policies
  • SAFETY/TRAINING:
  • Follow proper procedures and utilizes safety equipment appropriate for job
  • Follow all policies and regulations related to employee and patient safety
  • Remain current with Annual Safety Update and Blood-Borne Pathogens annual training
  • Report any unsafe condition or accident/injury immediately to the Lead Therapist or Director
  • DEPARTMENT QI:
  • Participate in department QI Program by collecting and/or compiling data, composing reports, and offering suggestions on ways to improve respiratory service
  • Participate as an active member of improvement teams
  • Actively promote evidence-based medicine by remaining current with respiratory therapy education, journals, etc.
  • RESPIRATORY/PHARMACOLOGY:
  • Dispense prescribed Respiratory Therapy medications and consults with staff physicians regarding orders related to Respiratory Therapy services
  • Has knowledge of adverse reactions and contradictions to all modes of respiratory therapy and is able to initiate immediate corrective action
  • Ensure patient safety by following all procedures related to the safe and effective delivery of medication
  • Report any medication error through the hospital’s reporting system
  • Attend staff meetings, seminars, etc. to increase knowledge of new techniques
  • DOCUMENTATION:
  • Complete documentation on forms and records appropriate to patient information
  • Documentation is legible, timely, concise, accurate, and follows all hospital and department requirements
  • Enter billing and charge information completely and accurately

Qualifications:

Required qualifications for this position includes:

  • Graduate of a Respiratory Therapy education program accredited by the Joint Commission on Respiratory Therapy Education (JCRTE)
  • Credentialed by the National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC) as either a Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT)
  • Those obtaining NBRC credentials after July 1, 2002 must also show proof of credential renewal every five (5) years
  • Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
  • New hires have eight (8) months from the date of hire to obtain ACLS cards if not current at the time of hire

Preferred qualifications for this position includes:

  • Associate's Degree in Respiratory Care
  • Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential
  • One (1) year of Critical care experience as Respiratory Therapist
