Job Description

Come be a part of a team of designers passionate about creating inclusive products for McDonald’s global customer base. You will be responsible for managing a small team of digital product designers, overseeing production-level development support, and evolving our design system across app, web, and kiosk. In this role you can expect to partner with McDonald’s agency partners, internal product managers, UX researchers and report to the Global Director of UX Design.

Work with the Global Digital product team to develop projects to ensure delivery, with particular focus on developing specifications, design patterns, development solutions and development production schedules. Work closely with Global Digital UX and product development squads, and partner vendors, to manage design and production workflow and to shape procedures and standards to ensure that digital products are developed on time, on budget, and to ensure quality-control standards are met.

Oversee planning and prioritization of individual projects and partner with Business Analysts to maintain a master calendar for all digital products in development. Oversee in-house design and production staff of three. Oversee their work, guide them in resolving issues and trouble-shooting problems, and monitor and evaluate their performance.

Responsibilities

• Manage 3 junior UX designers overseeing design QA and development support across app, web, and kiosk channels
• Lead the evolution of McDonald’s global digital design system and guidelines, partnering closely with our agency partner
• Provide hands-on support in a player/coach role as necessary – contributing to design assets, mid-fidelity prototypes, and presentations
• Collaborate with the product and development team to understand business and user requirements
• Ensure design vision and digital guidelines are executed consistently across app, web, and kiosk
• Communicate design intent to both internal and external teams with an emphasis on explaining the design approach and advocacy for users’ needs
• Be the champion of the end user throughout the agile development process
• Inspire, coach, and guide a team of talented designers to continually hone their craft, and deliver experiences that are culturally and globally relevant

Qualifications

• 8+ years of experience in omnichannel digital UX/UI design
• 3+ years of experience managing a team of UX/UI designers
• Ability to manage team’s resource allocations and workflow within capacity. Be able to plan ahead and identity potential capacity issues based on sprint deadlines and outline recommendations to meet expectations.
• Ability to concisely document and express user experience guidelines that can be readily understood and applied by both leadership and developers
• Excellence in Sketch, Figma, InVision, Keynote, PowerPoint, Excel, Jira, Confluence
• Experience with front end development (Swift, React) a plus
• Experience working with or within a digital agency
• Understanding of complex workflows designed to scale across diverse, global operations teams
• Partners with accessibility partners and possesses a strong knowledge of WCAG accessibility standards
• Experience working in Agile delivery environments where the pace is fast, continuous and a focus on execution is critical
• Experience creating, contributing to and/or consuming component-based design systems
• Expert knowledge of current digital product software technologies and product design workflow as the ability to develop and integrate new strategies in response to changing technologies and working environments.
• Grows managerial responsibilities. Along with direct reports, and/or be asked to manage freelancers.
• Invests time to stay on top of industry, creative, tech trends and looks for opportunities to apply learnings to work.
• Bachelor’s Degree in Design, Human-Computer Interaction, or related field
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong organizational skills, ability to manage complex projects and to prioritize and adapt to shifting deadlines and priorities.
• Project management and leadership skills and the ability to create a positive and productive team environment. Shapes work process on a project, defining deliverables, and team's time to executive deliverables against project constraints.
• Able to clearly articulate design decisions to colleagues and vendors. Can back up work and decisions with a clear rationale and strategic drivers. Knows when and how to challenge appropriately.
• Can attract and identify strong talent and participates in the hiring process.
