The Chief Operating Officer (COO) is responsible for the smooth and efficient operation of Providence Health Plan (PHP) and carries responsibility for assisting in development and integration of the organizational strategic plan with operations. The COO is a senior executive tasked with overseeing the day-to-day administrative and operational functions of Providence Health Plan (PHP) and designing optimal operating models to support the overall growth strategy. The COO reports directly to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO). The successful COO is a resourceful individual with strong process and operational skills, understanding of health care technology, experience, emotional intelligence, coaching and communications skills.

The position reports to the CEO and must establish and maintain effective working relationships with executive leadership, the entire division, and core leaders across the enterprise, as well as with other Providence Health & Services staff, vendors, agents, and others.

Essential Functions

• Oversee daily operations of PHP and the work of operational executives and caregivers in customer service, claims, billing and enrollment
• Designs and implements business strategies, plans and procedures, including the implementation of dedicated operating models for high-priority growth business lines (e.g., Administrative Services Only/ Self-Funded; Medicare)
• Set comprehensive goals for performance and to support overall long-term membership growth and revenue targets
• Lead employees to encourage maximum performance and dedication towards operational excellence for the health plan
• Participate in expansion activities (investments, acquisitions, corporate alliances etc.)

Qualifications:

Minimum Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree preferred in relevant field. A combination of relevant professional experience, education, coursework and leadership experience will be considered in total.
• A minimum of 10 years of professional experience in healthcare, preferably specifically with a health plan(s).
• A minimum of 5 years of experience in a senior and/or executive level position (Vice President or above) within a healthcare or related business and demonstrated experience performing described job functions.
• Knowledge and experience of best practices in organizational development and planning within a health system or multifaceted organization of the size and scale of PHP or larger.
• Project management and facilitation experience.
