Quality Assurance Manager, Engineering Team

Please be advised that the safety and health of our employees is our top priority. Hence, we will not require our teams to return to the office for a few more months. We are working from home for a few more months in 2022, post that, based on pandemic situation, you will be required to work from our office in Pune.

Your impact on mission:

As a Manager on Zocdoc’s Quality Assurance (Engineering) team, you will manage a global team of QA Engineers and Team Leads. You will work closely with engineering and product leaders, and the rest of the QA team, to develop and maintain team strategy and processes, set high standards for quality, and drive the team to be a partner to product development at Zocdoc. This is a people management role, with direct supervision of both senior individual contributors and managers.

Your day-to-day is

• Developing, retaining, leading, and hiring team members
• Coaching your team through challenges with a focus on long term career development
• Provide day-to-day management and oversight of engineering personnel. Provide guidance and direction, plan quarterly performance objectives, ensure adequate staffing, manage personnel issues and performance, etc.
• Build optimal engineering team structure (job titles, salary ranges, performance evaluation system, etc.).
• Work with leads to set and meet goals for code coverage efforts
• Play leadership role during test plan and test case reviews, providing direct feedback to Quality Engineers
• Establish, implement, and maintain metrics for measuring performance and evaluating QA operations with a focus is on quality of solutions and adherence to SDLC processes
• Working closely with the team to identify areas of improvement, especially in terms of processes and best practices
• Continuous Improvement: As a Quality Leader you will share your knowledge through lunch and learns, TechTalks, workshops, and other means to help level up the organization and not just your team.
• Generating, refining, and analyzing QA data in order to drive improvements within the QA team and also with partner Product/Engineering teams
• Collaborating with our agile teams of dedicated and brilliant engineers, product managers, and designers
• Manage a performance enhancement culture by actively coaching and mentoring direct reports, providing regular feedback, and developing employees for wider roles and responsibilities to foster professional growth and development
• Collecting feedback on QA Engineers from Engineering and Product Managers and turning that feedback into action

You’ll be successful in this role if you have

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or equivalent
• 7+ years of software product quality engineering experience including test planning, implementation, and execution
• 1+ year of experience managing Quality Assurance Teams
• Extensive experience with manual, automated (eg. Selenium, Cypress, WDIO) and exploratory testing methodologies
• Expertise in test planning, test case management, and defect analysis.
• Significant hands-on experience in project management and Agile/Scrum product development life cycles
• Experience with data analysis and/or writing any flavor of SQL query is a plus
• Experience with a test management or application lifecycle management tool is a plus.
• Demonstrated leadership, coaching and mentoring skills combined with flexibility working in a dynamic, fast moving product development environment.
• Successful collaboration experience across diverse business groups, geographies, and responsibilities, as well as the ability to engage effectively with people at all levels

Essential Responsibilities Include:

• Ensure cross functional projects are properly covered with QA resourcing, either by independently reallocating QA engineers or directly supporting
• Lead onboarding for new QA team members
• Understand relevant product KPIs and articulate to the QA team how testing affects KPIs, and articulate to Product / Engineering leadership how issues may affect KPIs
• Use knowledge of engineering roadmap and company priorities to advocate for QA resourcing
• Ensure work is on track for QA Engineers and reprioritize or reallocate resources as necessary
• Lead and/or delegate internal projects such as process improvements, tool implementation, career pathing changes, etc.

Key Performance Indicators

• Quality of test plans, test cases, and test execution as measured by bugs caught/missed in development across the QA engineers in your domain
• Minimal occurrence of delays due to QA resourcing or test coverage misses
• Mentoring and providing actionable feedback to junior team members
