About the Position

Jane Street’s Legal and Compliance group sits at the intersection of the firm’s business areas. This role is an opportunity to gain exposure to the varied operations of global trading and to understand the interaction of various U.K., EU, and international regulations. The Junior Compliance Specialist will sit on the trading floor and work with other members of the team each day.

Responsibilities of the role will include:

• Reviewing and managing surveillance alerts
• Liaising with front office trading and technology staff in relation to surveillance alerts
• Data analysis and creation of Management Information in relation to surveillance alerting
• Maintenance and ongoing review of surveillance alert parameterisation
• Contributions to and maintenance of Jane Street policies and procedures in relation to surveillance
• Developing improvements to the efficiency of the surveillance group’s organisation and working processes
• Contributing to the design and development of internal surveillance systems

The successful applicant must possess strong communication and analytical skills and be comfortable with data in a fast-paced and intense environment.

About You

• Undergraduate degree required
• Careful, thoughtful, and detail-oriented
• Strong organisation and project-management skills
• Proven ability to liaise with all areas of a trading firm, in particular technologists and traders
• Strong understanding of cash equity markets preferable, with some understanding of various financial products, across multiple asset classes, particularly exchange-traded funds (ETFs)
• Strong understanding of Market Abuse Regulation (MAR) and MiFID II/MiFIR
• VBA and SQL skills preferred
• Some previous compliance and/or surveillance experience within a proprietary trading firm, asset manager, or hedge fund preferred
• Fluency in English required
