The DNA Origins team is an essential part of our broader DNA organization. Our mission is to develop novel algorithms, to help our customers learn more about their family history from their DNA. We oversee a broad range of Ancestry products, such as ethnicity and genetic communities. As a Genomics Data Scientist intern, on the DNA origins team, you will jointly collaborate with our outstanding team of Scientists, to help us improve our genetic communities product. You will perform high-quality data-driven research and help us create valuable insights into future product development.

What you will do...

• Perform data gathering and analyses
• Provide regular project updates
• Keep project documentation in check (code and/or results)
• Present your work to a wider audience (DNA origins team)

Who you are...

• You are a person with a computational and/or data science background
• You are pursuing a PhD in a related field
• You are proficient in Linux and at least one scripting language (Python and/or R)
• Documented experience with Machine Learning is required
• Familiarity working with large datasets (~1 billion records)
• Familiarity with big data tools (Spark, Hadoop)

Internship Program Details: Students must be currently enrolled in an accredited U.S. educational institution with a graduation date after August 2022. Summer 2022 program dates are May 16th – September 9th** (Please note that we will have three intern onboarding dates to choose from: May 16th, June 6th and June 21st. Students may offboard every Friday, beginning August 12th. All internships must be wrapped up by September 9th.) FULLY PAID temporary housing and travel to and from internship All summer internships will be in Lehi, Utah. You will work a combined hybrid and office-based schedule that allows you to choose which days you come into the office and which days you work from temporary housing/home (Utah students). Interns have the opportunity to network and partner with other interns and industry-leading professionals. You will participate in engaging events including executive speaker sessions, professional development, and our annual Intern Days to showcase your project and work.
