The ACLU of Northern California (ACLU NorCal) seeks a Legal-Policy Assistant for the San Francisco office to help support and strengthen the work of the Technology and Civil Liberties program.

The Position
The ACLU of Northern California (ACLU NorCal) is hiring one Legal-Policy Assistant to join the Legal-Policy Department. ACLU NorCal focuses its legal-policy work across six broad program areas: Criminal Justice; Democracy & Civic Engagement; Gender, Sexuality & Reproductive Justice; Immigrants’ Rights, Racial & Economic Justice; and Technology & Civil Liberties.
We are seeking a Legal-Policy Assistant to help support and strengthen the work of the Technology and Civil Liberties program area. In your application materials, please identify any experience you may have in this subject area.
The Legal-Policy Assistant will assist in a range of diverse legal and policy projects, including supporting all stages of policy campaigns and litigation in both state and federal court from initial pleadings to appeals. The work of the Legal-Policy Assistant will also involve assisting with the coordination of public records requests and e-discovery solutions for various advocacy matters. The Legal-Policy Assistant will be supervised by the Technology and Civil Liberties Program Director. The location of the position is based in ACLU NorCal’s San Francisco office.

The ACLU of Northern California is an affiliate of the American Civil Liberties Union, a nationwide, non-profit, non-partisan organization dedicated to the defense and expansion of civil liberties and civil rights. The ACLU of Northern California (ACLU NorCal) is comprised of two distinct corporations, the ACLU Foundation of Northern California (the “Foundation”, a 501c3) and the ACLU of Northern California (the “Union”, a 501c4). COVID-19 Prevention
Due to COVID19 shelter in place restrictions this position will be temporarily based from your home office in California. The ACLU NorCal physical offices are expected to re-open in the future and at that time we begin will begin transitioning back to in person work from our regional offices.
Vaccination against COVID-19 is required as a condition of employment, unless an exemption is requested and approved. Masking is required for in person work at this time.

Total Compensation
We are committed to creating and maintaining a diverse workforce through equity initiatives, which includes equitable pay practices. Competitive compensation is commensurate with experience. Starting salary range for this position is $26.47-$30.89 per hour.
