Job Description

We have an exceptional opportunity for a Principal Data Engineer (Architect) that can help us disrupt the logistics industry and take our technology to new heights in our Global Forwarding division. This person will be responsible for leading the architecture, design, and implementation of our data engineering capabilities at scale for C.H. Robinson and our customers and carriers.

In this position you’ll be working closely with enterprise architecture, data engineers, analytics teams, and various stakeholders to take ideas from discovery to production with scalable and well-engineered solutions. This leader will ensure that teams are successful in our data strategy modernization by partnering on roadmaps, providing technical guidance for new use cases, and defining solutions.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical leadership in the architecture, design and implementation of Global Forwarding data management initiatives and best practices; including hands-on development & prototyping where needed
  • Work collaboratively with engineers, analytical teams, business sponsors, Enterprise Architecture, and broader Robinson engineering teams to bring products to production
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to team engineers
  • Collaborate with other senior level engineers/architects to help shape and influence our modern data strategy leveraging cloud-first technologies with event driven data streams; including technologies such as Azure Data Lake, Snowflake, dbt, Databricks, and Kafka
  • Create and maintain architectural vision, diagrams, and technical documentation
  • Promote and encourage an environment of innovation and entrepreneurial mindset
  • Coordinate and lead technical discussions and decision making
  • Guide, mentor, and influence architectural direction and principles adoption
  • Maintain positive, productive relationships with external teams
  • Ability to quickly review, analyze, and understand complex software spanning multiple product teams

Required Qualifications:

  • 8+ years of enterprise software data engineering experience
  • Proficiency with building highly available enterprise grade data integration pipelines
  • Experience with optimization of data pipelines (Microsoft Azure, Databricks, Snowflake)
  • Knowledge about data replication, data integration, and data masking
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience and a GED/high school diploma

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with cloud database technologies such as Azure, Snowflake, Databricks, Google, AWS or similar
  • Experience with cloud-based data integration tools/frameworks such as dbt, Talend, Matillion, or similar
  • Experience with enterprise data governance and data catalog tools such as Alation, Collibra, or similar
  • Experience with: C#.NET, Elastic, Angular JS React, Node.JS, HTML5, CSS, RESTful Services, Hadoop, Spark, Python, R, Kafka, Redis
  • Experience with Business Intelligence tools such as PowerBI, Tableau, Alteryx or similar
  • Ability to combine strong analytical and technical skills with business skills to engage with a wide range of stakeholders
  • Proven ability in change management and conflict resolution
