The European headquarters of the PayPal group, PayPal (Europe) S.à r.l. et Cie, S.C.A. (PayPal Europe), is a credit institution in Luxembourg, supervised by the Commission de Surveilance du Secteur Financier. We are looking for an experienced and dynamic lawyer to join our growing team with responsibility for advising the EU and UK Omni Payments business unit. The Omni Payments team focuses on, among other things, the movement of funds in the PayPal ecosystem, and arrangements with key financial institutions and partners. This position can be based in the EU or UK and will report into the Head of EU Regulatory & Product Legal. To succeed in this challenging role, candidates should be mature, self-motivated, independent and well-organised with excellent interpersonal, communication and problem solving skills. An ability to work in a matrixed environment with multiple stakeholders is essential.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Lead legal advisor on:
    • key financial institution partnerships and arrangements in respect of PayPal Europe
    • Omni Payments’ material initiatives, including relating to banks, acquirers and schemes
    • Supporting M&A activity (including investments and acquisitions) related to the EU and UK and integrations into PayPal Europe
    • Omni Payments product legal work

Job Requirements:

  • Admitted as a lawyer, with at least ten years’ post-admission experience in a law firm or as in-house counsel
  • Experience in banking, payments, financial services or fintech
  • Experience in M&A and integrations
  • Experience in dealing with senior management and external stakeholders
  • Ability to take ownership of matters, knowing when to take decisions and when to escalate
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, changing environment and matrixed organisation
  • Creative problem solver who remains calm under pressure and who can effectively prioritise
  • Highly resourceful and collaborative team player with the ability to manage team members directly or indirectly
  • Organised, with a keen attention for detail and an ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.
  • Flexibility to work with colleagues in the United States and Asia and on occasion accommodate calls and deadlines aligned to their time zones
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills: perfect English is a necessity, and other European languages may be useful
