This role contributes to REI’s success by providing analytics and execution support to the direct mail program including planning, audience selection, test execution, and reporting results/analysis. With others on the Marketing Channel Analytics team, this role will build and execute testing strategies to improve the efficacy of in-home flyers, catalogs, and postcards. Direct Mail is one of REI’s most profitable marketing tactics, making this role critical to the success of REI’s financial and philanthropic goals. This individual will work closely with the Direct Mail Program Manager to execute marketing plans, including working with our internal Print Operations team and print vendors. This role will also partner with the data science team to test and improve audience models, making strong SQL skills and comfort with general statistical principles important to the success of a job candidate.
  • Utilize SQL or Unica Campaign Management application for audience list creation based on project plan
  • Create methodology for treatment/control groups for test scenarios
  • Review execution plan with team Perform data audits on completed lists
  • Approve final print samples from printer for variable print accuracy and versioning
  • Report on performance of direct mail pieces in a timely manner
  • Review and approve direct mail creative as it pertains to data/testing
  • Maintain due date schedule for print pieces
  • Handling/transferring PII between REI and direct mail vendors
  • Become subject matter expert on REI’s householding process, customer address hygiene, and demographics data
  • Auditing/troubleshooting results; potentially at the customer level
  • Work with DM Program Manager on forecasting and planning of direct mail
  • Update store lists as needed when opening/closures occur
  • Support other marketing channels’ data needs as requested (email, push, sms, social, search, display, video)
  • Perform ad hoc analysis as requested

Bring your passion and expertise

  • 3+ years of experience supporting direct mail or other marketing channels in an analytics role or equivalent experience
  • 3+ years of experience working with customer data
  • 3+ years of experience writing SQL (Required Assessment during Interview Process)
  • 1+ years of experience designing marketing tests
  • 1+ years of experience with A/B and multivariate testing; general test setup and results reads
  • 1+ years of experience with Microsoft Excel
  • 1+ years of experience with Tableau or other visualization software
  • Familiarity with data encryption and securely transferring customer PII
  • Basic understanding of statistical methods (examples: significance testing like t-tests and chi-squared)
  • Experience using Unica, other campaign management software, or a Customer Data Platform
  • A solid business understanding and the proven ability to perform in-depth analysis, compile and interpret results, and report and present strategies and make recommendations to senior management.
  • Bachelor’s degree in quantitative or marketing field, or relevant work experience.
  • Ability to effectively and diplomatically communicate (written and verbal) with both internal and external contacts.
  • Excellent follow-through and attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated project management skills exercising sound judgment while displaying initiative and innovation on the job.
  • Ability to work independently, be self-directed, budget time, handle multiple projects and meet deadlines.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify, analyze and objectively solve problems.
  • Actively participates and collaborates with others on one's own team and across REI for the achievement of business goals.

As required by the Colorado Equal Pay Transparency Act, REI provides a range of minimum compensation for roles that may be hired in Colorado. Factors that may be used to determine your actual salary may include a wide array of factors, including: your specific skills and experience, geographic location or other relevant factors. The salary range for this position may be lower or higher in different markets.

$47,500 to $97,500 per year
