The American Civil Liberties Union of Utah seeks to hire a passionate and innovative Digital Communications Strategist to plan and execute high-impact digital communications products to increase engagement in and visibility of our work. The ideal candidate will be creative, mission-focused, and results-driven, using digital platforms and innovative tactics to drive bold, consistent messaging across digital platforms that align with the mission and values of the ACLU of Utah. This is a new position at the organization and is well-suited to a creative and visionary individual.

The Digital Communications Strategist is a Full-Time, Salaried, and Exempt position that will work under the supervision of the Strategic Communications Manager and in close collaboration with the Campaigns, Development, & Legal Departments.

Position Overview and Functions:

The Digital Communications Strategist plans and implements digital communications and social media for the ACLU of Utah.

The purpose of this position is to increase, elevate, and strategically deploy digital communications content for the ACLU of Utah. Under the direction of the Strategic Communications Manager, the Digital Communications Strategist will create digital content centered around an overarching communications plan that drives the messages, branding, and movements of the ACLU of Utah. In coordination with the Campaigns department, the ideal candidate will assist with campaign messaging and mobilizing.

Specifically, the Digital Communications Strategist will:

  • Support the Strategic Communications Manager to create, implement, and maintain a communications plan that blends traditional communications and digital communications to achieve organizational priorities;
  • Generate social media, web traffic, and email audience engagement and growth through

impactful, branded, and consistent digital communications strategies;

  • Collaborate across departments to identify high-impact opportunities to increase the visibility of and achieve the goals of our campaigns, legal, and legislative work;
  • Manage a comprehensive digital content calendar that highlights the priorities of the ACLU of Utah and the national ACLU organization;
  • Create, edit, and schedule social posts including graphics and possibly video content;
  • In collaboration with various staff, produce HTML emails, action alerts, and forms;
  • Design campaign materials in coordination with the Director of Campaigns including pamphlets, signage, and t-shirts;
  • Working with the Campaigns team, develop, implement, and support digital organizing strategies;
  • Track, analyze, and report on organizational social media metrics, email engagement, and web traffic;
  • Assist with other Communications tasks and projects as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Qualified candidates will have:

  • A bachelor’s degree in communications or an equivalent level of experience working in the field of communications;
  • Expertise utilizing a variety of social media platforms;
  • Ability to be flexible and creative to respond to breaking news;
  • Experience creating branded content for social media that conveys a clear, high-impact message;
  • Ability to adhere to confidentiality guidelines;
  • Excellent writing, editing, and time-management skills with exceptional attention to detail;
  • Proven ability to meet deadlines;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate accurate information both in writing and verbally;
  • A commitment to diversity- a personal approach that values the individual and respects differences of race, ethnicity, age, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, religion, ability, involvement with the criminal legal justice system, and socio-economic circumstance.

Strong candidates will also have:

  • Experience using Adobe Creative Suite;
  • Familiarity with video shooting, production, and editing;
  • Ability to read, write, and translate Spanish communications surrounding social and legal issues;
  • Demonstrated commitment to working in a public interest field;
  • Experience managing social media accounts that navigate social issues that affect historically marginalized communities;
  • Demonstrated commitment to social issues in a public communications setting;
  • Experience conceptualizing, planning, and executing a communications strategy.

SALARY & BENEFITS:

The salary range for this position is $42,000-$47,000 annually depending on experience. Excellent benefits include: generous paid time off, medical, vision, and dental insurance, and a 401(k) plan with employer matching contribution that vests after one year of employment.
