About this role

This product management role in our SMA Tech team designs and develops highly scaled and delightful experiences for financial advisors and our internal operations teams. We are on a journey to create the industry’s leading platform for outsourced personalized portfolios. The SMA Tech team owns the technology footprint of our SMA business, responsible for building, buying, and operating the technology underpinning our ambitions. SMA Tech is a multidisciplinary team of approximately 45 product managers, engineers, UX designers, and QA professionals. This role reports into the Product Director, Operations Experience.

Key Responsibilities

• Set and maintain the roadmap. Contribute to the vision for the Operations Experience and build a roadmap that drives toward that vision. Distill the roadmap into actionable deliverables and milestones and evangelize this roadmap to your engineering team and stakeholders.
• Execute the roadmap. Convert the roadmap into robust specifications and efficiently develop those as enterprise-grade software in close, hands-on partnership with your engineering team. Drive priority decisions and create an environment for your engineering team to execute efficiently.

• Market expertise. Be a student of the U.S. wealth management and/or SMA ecosystem. Develop unique opinions on developments in the space to inform our roadmap.
• UX design. Working closely with your UX design counterparts, design user experiences and workflows with a deep understanding of and empathy for varying users, including financial advisors and operational personnel. Relentlessly work to improve our UX in pursuit of user delight.
• Commercially Oriented. Learn and understand the economics of the wealth market, technology firms, and BlackRock, and able to drive economic decisions in roadmap planning, prioritization, and resource allocation.
• Technical acumen. Able to envision and design technically-feasible integrations, leading detailed specification work with our product and engineering teams and taking into account user experience, operational scale, and implementation cost.
• Stakeholder management. This role engages with the SMA Operations team as well as our Portfolio Management, Sales, and L&C teams These teams are our partners and stakeholders. The product manager is expected to develop productive relationships with stakeholders and iterate on the engagement model between the Operations Experience product team and stakeholder teams.

Desired Qualifications

• 3+ years of meaningful experience in product management roles in the fintech or operationally complex industries
• Track record of developing and launching new technology features and capabilities
• Proven ability to manage a product backlog, drive prioritization decisions, and work hands-on with engineers to build and ship new capabilities

• Experience managing internal stakeholders and synthesizing user feedback
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to deliver presentations and communicate up and down the organization
• Strong interpersonal, problem-solving and planning skills
• Strong technical abilities with an ability and desire to get in the weeds
