The Collins Aerospace Avionics Vision Systems business is in Wilsonville, OR, and makes Head Up Guidance Systems (HGS) for commercial, and military platforms, and helmet mounted display (HMD) technologies for current and future fighter jets. Whether it’s a nighttime operation or low visibility in adverse weather conditions, our HGS with enhanced vision systems gives our customers the power and assurance of unprecedented situational and terrain awareness. Our HMD technology provides pilots with advanced situational awareness and gives them critical information on their helmet’s visor, enhancing response times and reducing workload.

New Product Introduction (NPI) Manufacturing Electrical Engineers (MEE) works with their Design Engineer and Test Engineer counterparts to determine how to test hardware and what type of test equipment is required for new product. The MEE looks for opportunities to advance, streamline, and automate the electrical manufacturing and test processes in line with the new technologies built in NPI.

As a Principal Engineer, this position is seen as a peer-leader who executes their program deliverable while mentoring engineers who are earlier in their career. A strong Principal Engineer seeks to understand how things are done to successful drive change.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Establishes and leads frequent meetings to aggressively work test related issues.
  • Estimates the available capacity for test equipment.
  • Submits budget for new test equipment as part of the Annual Operating Plan (AOP) and writes a justification memo to get the proper authorizations.
  • Monitors the monthly financial reporting of test equipment development to identify potential cost issues.
  • Attends and participates in hardware and test equipment design reviews.
  • Verifies functionality of the new test equipment, procedures and documentation for production readiness.
  • Sets up optimal test process flows. Determines which assemblies get sub-level tested.
  • Works with Industrial Engineering Technicians (IE Techs) to create needed routing steps and the correct order for sub-level and top-level assemblies.
  • Tracks test yields and identifies component and workmanship trends.
  • Provides test related inputs to the MRL assessment.
  • Ensures test equipment and test documentation are released prior to First Article Inspection (FAI).
  • Required to be onsite 3-4 days per week to provide timely manner support to the shop floor.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree and 8 years of prior relevant experience.
  • OR Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years experience.
  • OR In absence of a degree, 12 years of relevant experience is required.
  • Engineering/Other Technical Positions: Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 8 years of prior relevant experience unless prohibited by local laws/regulations.
  • Must be a U.S. Person/Permanent Resident “Green Card” holder

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experienced across various types of electrical and optical builds and sub assembly systems.
  • Knowledgeable of aerospace or manufacturing processes, product, and quality requirements.
  • Self-directed; strong planning and organizational skills, able adapt to changing priorities and assignments while executing.
  • Exposure to ERP systems, SAP preferred.
  • Strong peer leadership, organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Drives improvement utilizing lean principles and tools.
  • Effective with Engineering programs, such as, Computer Aided Design (CAD) and Additive Manufacturing techniques (3D printing), and Solidworks.
  • Experienced with government and regulatory body requirements, such as, FAA, FDA, DOE, DoD, etc.
  • Knowledgeable with Application Lifecycle Management software and Requirements Tracing software (JIRA, SAP, DOORS).
