Collins Aerospace is looking for a Principal Electrical Engineer in the Vision and Connectivity Systems (VCS) Value Stream. The engineer in this role will be responsible for development of video systems using Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence processing to carry Collins’ next generation of video products into the future.

Position is based in Burnsville, MN; relocation assistance is available once we return to the site.

Consideration to work remotely will be given to highly qualified candidates.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Provides technical leadership of complex designs to customers, electrical engineering community and VCS Value Stream
  • Performs engineering work and applied research, development, and design for new products to ensure quality standards and functional objectives are met​
  • Researches, develops, designs, and tests electrical components, equipment, systems, and products
  • Architects embedded processor system for video processing, machine learning, and networked products including selecting micro-processor, memory, storage, FPGA, and networking components
  • Familiar with FPGA development including VHDL coding, test bench development, synthesis, and timing
  • Produces products according to specifications, using the most cost effective and efficient means
  • Participates in technical preparations for new product development and implementation to ensure new products meet the required specifications
  • Analyzes and evaluates new or improved electronic components
  • Completes drawing designs as required to create and manage the engineering change request and change order process
  • Interfaces with engineers, customers, vendors and other stakeholders on existing and potential engineering projects or products
  • Troubleshoots electrical devices to ensure that issues are resolved efficiently
  • Resolves technical problems on the production floor to improve yield, scrap and performance metrics
  • Understands circuit theory, analog and digital design, instrumentation, semiconductor devices, power supply design and solid-state devices.
  • Requirements management including requirements generation, design and development, integration, verification, validation, and documentation for existing and new products
  • Leads medium to large electrical engineering team including outsource and offshore organizations
  • Develops and demonstrates a deep technical understanding of product families
  • Interfaces with internal cross-functional and cross-site team members
  • Coaches and mentors electrical engineering team
  • Provides estimations for new hardware pursuits and rework activities
  • Develops and executes electrical engineering standard practices

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree (typically in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM)) and a minimum of 8 years of prior relevant experience unless prohibited by local laws/regulations OR
  • Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years experience OR
  • In absence of a degree, 12 years of relevant experience is required
  • Must be a U.S. Person/Permanent Resident “Green Card” holder

Preferred Qualifications:

  • FPGA development including VHDL coding and test bench development
