Job Summary

Responsible for providing legal support and knowledge in an area of legal specialty for routine, day-to-day matters affecting one or more of the business units and/or corporate headquarters. Provides basic advices and recommendations on routine issues that have or may have a non-material impact on business activities and operations. Operates under close supervision, following establishes policies and procedures. Researches legal principles and precedents. Supervises outside counsel on routine matters within the scope of legal specialty.

Job Description

We are looking for an experienced lawyer to advise on a variety of legal and compliance matters for our dynamic and growing international business, FreeWheel. In particular, you will review, draft and negotiate agreements, provide general legal guidance and assist the Senior Legal Director, International on a broad range of projects.

You are a gifted lawyer who understands business and legal issues, enjoys the intellectual challenges of providing succinct counsel regarding complex commercial and legal matters, and consistently strives for excellence. You are adept at identifying potential legal issues and managing the problem-solving and implementation processes with other areas of the company, including business, technical and finance colleagues. While a command of the law is essential, the company expects you to provide advice based on a nuanced understanding of its business and its products as well as personnel and industry, and to devise the best solution for a problem - not simply the best “legal" solution.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • Counsel and advise FreeWheel, part of Comcast’s advanced advertising division, responsible for delivering technology that enables multi-platform, data-driven advertising campaigns across the television ecosystem.
  • Draft, review and negotiate commercial agreements, including but not limited to, agreements related to technology platforms, enterprise software licensing, consulting and professional services, and product development for television, internet, and mobile products and services primarily in the areas of advertising and ad tech.
  • Perform legal research when and as necessary to resolve legal issues and determine the appropriate course of action regarding a particular issue/case. Consult with and supervise outside counsel to develop legal strategies and resolve issues in non-routine matters.
  • Act as point person and coordinate with others within the Legal Department on privacy, intellectual property, anti-trust and other legal issues that arise in connection with the FreeWheel business.
  • Coordinate legal functions with other departments affected by the matter/issue.
  • Project manage complex matters and legal projects.
  • Work closely with account managers, support, engineers and product teams.
  • Provide support to Comcast’s other international businesses as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :

  • Qualified as a solicitor in England & Wales.
  • Undergraduate and legal practice qualifications degrees from accredited institutions.
  • Minimum 4 years’ post qualification experience, either gained in-house legal or at a reputable law firm, ideally including at least 2 years’ post qualification experience gained in private practice.
  • Significant experience negotiating commercial transactions and counseling clients, ideally in the areas of advertising, technology, and software licensing and development.
  • Self-starter, who will proactively issue spot and seek resolution, work independently (with appropriate supervision), as well as work cooperatively with small teams as the circumstances may require.
  • Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Knowledge of advertising and the ad tech ecosystem preferred.
  • Knowledge of data and privacy laws and best practices preferred.
  • Ability to work effectively with management and operations personnel.
  • Ability to identify matters requiring escalation to senior members of the legal team, manage multiple projects, and meet deadlines with consistently high-quality work product.
  • Ability to support a fast-paced entrepreneurial business.
  • Comfortable working across multiple practice groups, gathering feedback and spotting issues outside primary area of responsibility.
