Senior Manager, Global Logistics – Transportation Operations

Experienced professional with deep knowledge and technical expertise managing domestic and international logistics and transportation operations. Employing industry best practices, this leader will make significant process, systems, and customer service improvements in support of the procurement, manufacturing, sales, and customer service teams. Works across the organization with internal and external groups.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Develop and facilitate global logistics optimization projects to improve service, meet company schedules, and reduce cost.
  • Oversight of transportation and logistics service provider performance for supplier, intra-company, OEM, and aftermarket sales. Implement and maintain appropriate Key Performance Indicators (KPI) and work with providers and internal customers to ensure appropriate service levels are achieved.
  • As a transportation Subject Matter Expert, assist in company transportation and logistics procurement efforts, evaluating bids, service offerings and making recommendations for provider selection.
  • Expert resource to facilitate resolution of logistics operations and international trade issues. Engage with Global Trade department to facilitate import/export and compliance operations with customers, suppliers, and logistics providers. Ensure compliance with all customer/program logistics and trade requirements.
  • Assist internal customers expedite delivery of critical materials.
  • Manage company freight audit and payment process. Leverage 3rd party Freight Bill Audit & Payment (FBAP) to manage timely, accurate freight payment, and provide logistics spend transparency.
  • Leverage data from multiple sources to measure transportation performance, including carrier performance and analysis of spend. Support business unit and company budgeting and forecasts.
  • Lead efforts to identify and develop new technologies to improve logistics capability.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree and 10 years of prior relevant experience OR
  • Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 7 years’ experience OR
  • In absence of a degree, 14 years of relevant experience is required
  • Extensive experience managing domestic and international freight with multiple modes (parcel, air, ground, ocean, multimodal), preferably including out of gauge, military, and dangerous goods shipments
  • Proficient in MS Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
  • Strong written and verbal communication
  • Ability to travel internationally occasionally as business needs

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Industry experience in aerospace and defense desirable.
  • Thorough grounding in transportation procurement strategies, including experience in parcel, air, truckload, less-than-truckload, and ocean pricing and bid evaluation.
  • Solid grounding in international trade requirements and best practices. Knowledge of ITAR and export control regulations. Familiarity with duty drawback, Foreign Trade Zone (FTZ) and other duty mitigation programs desirable.
  • Experience with carrier claims resolution and over, short and damage (OS&D) reduction programs.
  • Experience in managing freight payables in a complex global corporation. Experience implementing and managing Freight Bill Audit and Payment services desired.
  • Experience with Transportation Management System (TMS) operations and implementation. Oracle Transportation Management (OTM) preferred.
  • Experience with ERP systems (SAP preferred) and related applications such as Power BI desirable.
