Collins Aerospace is looking for a Test Lab Manager to oversee our Structural, Mechanical, Flight test Instrumentation and Fabrication labs at our Chula Vista testing location.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Manage and lead a team of engineers and technicians in the Test Lab Structures Lab, Mechanical Test Lab, and Flight Test Instrumentation Lab.
  • Responsible for overseeing design, fabrication, assembly of test articles and fixtures required for large scale testing of nacelle and aircraft engine structural components.
  • Responsible for overseeing operations in the Mechanical Test Laboratory including static and fatigue loading testing of various metallic and composite materials.
  • Will direct activities for installation of instrumentation sensors for flight test hardware supporting the flight test instrumentation (FTI) group.
  • Will plan and execute test operations including oversight of customer requirements, data acquisition, measurement and control systems.
  • Will provide cost and schedule estimates, assign resources, track schedule and cost performance, ensure quality compliance and review/approve test results for all activity within the directed labs.
  • Will drive customer experience from initial marketing of laboratory services through delivery of testing.
  • Fosters Continuous Improvement and Innovation

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree and 8 years of prior relevant experience OR
  • Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years experience OR
  • In absence of a degree, 12 years of relevant experience is required
  • Engineering/Other Technical Positions: Bachelor’s degree (typically in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM)) and a minimum of 8 years of prior relevant experience unless prohibited by local laws/regulations.
  • Must be a U.S. Person/Permanent Resident “Green Card” holder

Preferred Qualifications

  • Test and project management experience.
  • Bachelors Degree in Aerospace, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or MBA.
  • Knowledge and experience with structural and mechanical test operations including the setup, operation of servo-hydraulic controls, actuators, hydraulic supplies and associated systems.
  • Catia v5 and direct experience in the design of structural/mechanical or engine mount testing.
  • Familiarity with test instrumentation including strain gages, load cells, LVDT, crack propagation sensors.
