Qualifications

Minimum qualifications:

• JD or equivalent practical experience
• 5 years of experience practicing trademark law in a law firm or in-house legal department
• Admitted to the bar and in good standing or otherwise authorized to practice law (e.g., have registered in-house status) in the state in which the role is located

Preferred qualifications:

• Experience providing pragmatic advice on trademark issues to clients in a fast paced, changing environment
• Experience and interest in working on intermediary liability issues
• Ability to navigate complex issues with multiple stakeholders
• Excellent communication, collaboration, and organizational skills

About the job

Our Legal team needs more than attorneys to keep things moving. Our Legal Operations team is charged with improving and maintaining the Legal team's internal processes, systems and tools. Responsible for tracking objectives, coordinating financial planning and solving technology challenges, you are entrepreneurial, proactive and highly organized. You keep costs down, engage third-party vendors and make the Legal team's services better, faster and more efficient.

In this role, you will be responsible for all trademark legal matters for Google worldwide. You'll build and protect our trademark portfolios, including providing clearance for proposed marks, registering our trademarks throughout the world, managing trademark-related disputes, and providing strategic advice on trademark litigation. You will also manage trademark intermediary liability issues for our online platforms, including developing trademark and counterfeit removal policies, advising on removal requests, and counseling product teams.

Responsibilities

• Review and manage trademark clearance searches.
• Register Google trademarks globally.
• Enforce Google trademarks globally and manage contested matters related to trademarks, counterfeits, and domain names.
• Provide trademark advice to Marketing and Product teams, and others throughout the company.
• Provide legal counsel on trademark intermediary liability issues, including developing removal policies, advising on removal requests, and counseling Product teams.
