The Collins Connected Aviation Solutions (CAS) team is currently leading the Connected Ecosystem strategic pillar for Collins Aerospace. Within CAS, the Integrated Digital Solutions (IDS) team is focused on leading the digital transformation of CAS and beyond. CAS develops cutting edge data analytics and applications that are utilized on existing and future platforms. We are seeking qualified candidates for a Senior Manager of Engineering to lead a cross-functional product engineering team.

Position will be based in Sterling, Virginia; consideration to work remotely will be given to highly qualified candidates.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Develop engineering talent and ensure the team is trained in the tools, techniques and processes to drive superior quality into every product/service we produce.
  • Work in a fast-paced collaborative development environment that supports all application needs across CAS teams.
  • Work within the Collins Management Systems structure, interfacing with Technical Project Managers, Value Stream leaders, Product Line teams and other functions to direct technical pursuit and development activities throughout the product and program lifecycles.
  • Recommend investments or changes in technology, resources, procedures, equipment, systems or other assets to improve the quality of the organization’s projects
  • Perform general management responsibilities including resource planning, mentoring, and employee development
  • Communicate complex technical subjects with clarity and precision; prepare and deliver internal/external technical and business presentations.
  • Lead and coach people to develop core leadership skills and innovative solutions to problems
  • May travel domestically and internationally up to 20%

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree and 10 years of prior relevant experience OR
  • Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 7 years’ experience OR
  • In absence of a degree, 14 years of relevant experience is required
  • Engineering/Other Technical Positions: Bachelor’s degree (typically in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM)) and a minimum of 10 years of prior relevant experience unless prohibited by local laws / regulations.
  • Must be a U.S. Person/Permanent Resident “Green Card” holder
  • Experience leading cross-functional engineering teams in an Agile environment.
  • Ability to take ownership of tasks and lead efforts spanning multiple stakeholders and the capability to communicate effectively with all levels of the organization as well as customers.
  • Strong interpersonal and technical competencies.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience within the avionics industry. Direct experience in an airline operational unit would be a plus.
  • 5+ years of demonstrated engineering leadership in a relevant engineering function, such as software/service development and deployment, system design and integration, or data analytics.
