Qualifications

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Design, Human-Computer Interaction, Cognitive Science, Experimental Psychology, Anthropology, Computer Science, Information Science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 15 years of professional experience in UX or related role or 13 years with an advanced degree.
  • Experience directing/mentoring a multi-functional UX team.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Excellent portfolio demonstrating creative range, innovative thinking and experience in creating new and delightful experiences based on user insights.
  • Experience at agency/design firms and technology-based product companies.
  • Experience developing, pitching, and ultimately shipping breakthrough work that elevates product experience.
  • Ability to present and explain UX decisions and direction to senior stakeholders across the company.

About the job

As the UX Director on the App Ads team, you will lead a team of designers and researchers, and partner with Product Management, Engineering, Sales, gTech and more, as well as other Google product Areas to define the future of app ads, privacy, and formats design. In this role, your work will influence product strategy, hone our identity and motivate teams to push the boundaries of what’s possible.

Users come first at Google. Nowhere is this more important than on our Advertising and Commerce team: we believe that ads and commercial information can be highly useful to our users if that information is relevant to what our users wish to find or do. Advertisers worldwide use Google Ads to promote their products; publishers use AdSense to serve relevant ads on their website; and business around the world use our products (like Google Shopping, and Google Wallet) to support their online businesses and bring users into their offline stores. We are constantly innovating to deliver the most effective advertising and commerce opportunities of tomorrow.

Responsibilities

  • Drive high-impact design projects from concept to production - help define, deliver, and implement a future vision for the experience of our products.
  • Work closely with Program Management, UX Experience, Product Management and Engineering to effectively communicate the value of research, content and design.
  • Advocate for coherence, narrative and simplicity across Google and inspire, empower, and grow members of a diverse team of UX talent.
  • Drive engagement efforts with stakeholder groups to focus on principles of diversity, equity and inclusion in product development.
  • Build bridges across Google’s UX and product teams.
