What you’ll be doing...

You’ll be working on a shared 50/50 basis as counsel for both the European Regulatory & Government Affairs and the European Commercial Legal team. On the Regulatory side, reporting into the Director for Central and Eastern Europe, you will work on a wide variety of regulatory, privacy and public policy issues in close interaction with external bodies, including regulators, government bodies and trade associations. You will also be supporting the team’s subject matter experts (SMEs) for one or more specific horizontal matters that are relevant for all European countries, with a focus on product reviews and our telematics business. On the Legal side, reporting on a dotted line basis to the Director for Commercial Legal you will support Verizon’s sales and commercial teams in all countries in Europe by undertaking a wide variety of commercial legal matters including drafting, reviewing and negotiating contractual documentation for Verizon’s services and solutions including at the RFP post contract stages.
You’ll ideally be based in Frankfurt, Germany but in a flexible post-Covid work environment we are open for alternative approaches.

  • Reviewing new regulatory obligations and driving changes in products and processes if necessary from a compliance point of view and regulatory and legal support for the telematics business.
  • Monitoring in-country legislative, regulatory and public policy developments, interpreting their impact on Verizon, and communicating to relevant stakeholders.
  • Providing legal support and advice to sales channels and internal clients for our enterprise focused business in all countries in Europe, reviewing, negotiating and drafting sales and services contracts including ongoing contract management support.
  • Coordinating on any of the above with different internal Verizon teams across the globe.

What we’re looking for...

You are passionate and knowledgeable about regulation and policy trends in the digital and telecommunications sector. You are curious, a quick learner and eager to explore new territories. We need someone who is proactive, likes to take the initiative and is able to juggle multiple projects, self-manage and prioritize effectively and work efficiently under pressure. A “can-do” attitude is essential. You must be willing to work outside of your jurisdiction, in other countries in Europe, on commercial legal matters (with the understanding that you would be supported on any specific local law requirements). Finally, you must be confident in communicating and presenting effectively both verbally and in writing across a wide range of internal and external stakeholders, often to senior levels.
You’ll need to have:

  • JD degree and relevant work experience.
  • Bar membership and needed licenses.
  • Experience in handling regulatory, public policy and privacy matters interacting with national regulators and other government stakeholders.
  • Willingness to work on a wide variety of multi-national regulatory and legal issues in various jurisdictions and capability to self-manage and prioritize. .

Even better if you have:

  • Knowledge of a specific issue/area, such as privacy, cyber-security or telematics or mobile communications, etc.
  • Excellent team player qualities.
  • Commercial legal skills, including drafting and negotiating.
  • Ability to quickly learn and to assess new and complex (technical and legal) matters and produce high quality advice.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, excellent in English.
  • Strong business acumen, pragmatic approach to problem solving and able to rapidly assess potential risks and consequences of business and legal decisions and effectively counsel internal clients.
  • Experience in the telecoms sector or in mobile communication solutions.
  • Reading and writing skills in multiple languages.
  • Computer skills, including working knowledge of GSuite, Excel and Powerpoint.
