Qualifications

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 5 years of experience in a merchandising or marketing role for an online commerce or digital content business.
  • Ability to speak and write fluency in English and Japanese.

Preferred qualifications:

  • 5 years of experience working in function or company focused on mobile, e-commerce or gaming.
  • Experience and knowledge of Japan apps market, apps ecosystem, categories, and business models.
  • Experience leading highly effective teams with an ability to build alignment and drive cross-functional strategic initiatives, and work with partners to develop co-promotion or cross-promotion strategies/campaigns.
  • Ability to analyze research or performance data and apply that analysis to optimize merchandising strategy.
  • Ability to advise on strategies and product requirements to enhance merchandising capabilities.
  • Excellent analytical and written (digital and mobile context) and verbal communication skills, with collaborative working approach.

About the job

As a Merchandising Manager, you will help build and maintain Google Play's merchandising program on handsets, web and tablets. Based on your digital content retail experience, you will coordinate and launch effective online features and promotions. You bring to the table strong retail instincts, sharp analytical abilities, and impeccable oral and written communication skills. You are comfortable working cross-functionally with product, design, marketing, engineering, and other teams to develop an innovative user experience. It’s important that you be able to work both independently and collaboratively to develop new content features and scalable merchandising processes. You’ll also have a track record for successful prioritization, meeting critical deadlines, and enthusiastically addressing challenges with an eye toward problem solving.

Google Play is at the heart of the Android ecosystem, providing the apps, games, and digital content services that bring Android devices to life. The Play store serves many users and is a critical driver of Google’s overall business growth. The Global Merchandising Team owns content programming within the Play Store across all regions and verticals (e.g., Apps, Games, etc.).

As an Apps Merchandising Lead for Google Play, you will impact many of users everyday by owning merchandising efforts for the Apps vertical within your market(s).

Google Play offers music, movies, books, apps and games for devices, powered by the cloud. It syncs across devices and on the web. As part of the Android and Mobile team, Googlers working on Google Play do everything from engineering our backend systems, to shaping product strategy, to forming great content partnerships. They make it possible for people to do things like buy an ebook or song on their Android phone, then have it instantly available on their laptop. The Google Play team enhances the Android ecosystem by giving developers and partners a premium store where they can reach millions of users.

Responsibilities

  • Set the country and regional merchandising strategy for the Apps vertical and execute against the global plan.
  • Own the country and regional merchandising program and create apps campaigns and content.
  • Analyze internal data, market research, and industry trends to select content to promote and to understand how users are engaging with the recommended apps.
  • Develop user insight for the Apps vertical, research new and trending apps as well as help test these apps for quality and usefulness.
  • Curate, write, and/or edit copy for editorial placements on the store.
