Job Description

Smartsheet is looking for a Senior Software Engineer (Data Platform) to join our Business Data Platform team.

The Business Data platform serves as the hub, of a hub and spoke model for data integration at Smartsheet and provides a single platform for serving our internal customers to be more data driven. We enable data integration from all kinds of sources such as relational and no-sql databases, APIs, file sources and enable reverse-ETL to destinations ranging from the Smartsheet Product and business systems. We work alongside data analytics and data science teams to build pipelines, services and tools that enable a wide variety of job functions within the entire organization like Product and Engineering, Marketing, Sales, Legal, Customer Success and Security.

You will report to the Director of Business Data Platform in our Bellevue office, and you have the option to work remotely from any Smartsheet registered location within the United States.

You Will:

  • Manage and continuously improve data pipeline systems, using Kubernetes, Airbyte, Airflow, Snowflake on AWS and GCP Clouds
  • Improve our data platform's observability utilizing custom metrics and/or integrations using Datadog and ElasticSearch
  • Understand and anticipate the needs of the product owners, and propose scalable technology solutions to support stakeholders
  • Contribute to full SDLC; defining, prioritizing, designing, implementing, testing, CI/CD and deploying new features for our platform
  • You will support your colleagues by reviewing code and designs
  • Engage in troubleshooting and root cause analysis toward identifying solutions and next steps for production issues. Be part of on-call rotations to support production processes
  • Own critical features and be able to work in a self-directed, autonomous manner
  • Naturally curious, and willing to learn new skills
  • Employs a DevOps oriented approach to improve the quality, consistency and efficiency of deployment of the team's products and infrastructure
  • Architect systems and frameworks that allow other teams to leverage data effectively in a self-serve manner

You Have:

  • BS or MS in Computer Science, a related field, or equivalent industry experience
  • Have a good understanding of engineering fundamentals ( design patterns, common practices) and building high-volume data products and services
  • 4 to 5 years of software engineering experience with any high level software language like with Python or Java in data engineering
  • Has experience with working on multi-terabyte big data systems
  • 1 year designing or working with a SaaS, IaaS, or PaaS service running in AWS or other cloud provider on cloud native infrastructure
  • Experience with AWS services like Lambda, S3, Cloudwatch, ECS, Fargate, RDS/Aurora and DynamoDB etc
  • Experience deploying and managing Kubernetes clusters and containerized workloads
  • Using Infrastructure-as-Code like Cloudformation or Terraform/Terragrunt
  • Using Python, Java to build software frameworks
