Lead Product Designer, Design Systems

Job Description

Position Summary

We're seeking a driven Lead Product Designer to join Marqeta's rapidly growing product design team to build out our internal Design Systems team. The product design team works across a multitude of product areas creating and building a variety of complex and exciting solutions for the payments industry. You’ll be helping guide our team, including our cross-functional partners, to build out a unified design system that brings all of our products at Marqeta together under a common design language.

What you'll do

• Set a vision and strategy for uniting all of our projects under a common set of design system principles and practices through a cohesive and refined visual language and interaction patterns.
• Evaluate the product ecosystem holistically and build patterns that work across the system and not just for a specific feature.
• Partner closely with Engineering, Product, and Design to drive cross-functional alignment, define strategy, and develop team roadmap and priorities.
• Guide our team in establishing scalable frameworks and guidelines such as documentation of our Design System and standards, our Product Illustration style guide, UX writing guidelines, accessibility requirements, and localization/internationalization standards.
• Advocate for the design system within our company by regularly communicating strategy, plans, and updates across the organization.
• Lead day-to-day design system operations, drive project timelines, and hold the team accountable to our high bar for quality.
• Lead, coach, develop, and inspire a multi-disciplinary team of Product Designers to help Marqeta design at scale.

What we're looking for

• Have 7 or more years of relevant design experience at a tech, product-driven company, or design agency with at least 2 years of experience on a design systems team.
• Experience successfully building and maintaining design systems at scale within a large product company.
• Exceptional collaboration skills and ability to partner with cross-functional partners, to drive towards successful outcomes.
• Proven technical understanding of how to build and architect scalable design systems within a product-driven company.
• Effective communication and presentation skills in explaining your work, process, and decisions to cross-functional stakeholders.
• Confident working with remote and distributed teams.
