Responsibilities

Research IT – Data Engineer

The successful candidate will join a global team of data scientists, software engineer, computational scientists, develop efficient data management and visualization solution and scale computational analytics to support cutting edge approaches for biopharmaceutical discovery and development for new modalities such as siRNA, gene editing.

This position responsible to extend existing platform for Biotherapeutics to new therapeutics modalities and cloud implementation. The work includes but not limited to data architecture design, data pipeline automation for pre-process, ingestion, storage, and retrieval. This position is based in Lilly Cambridge, while collaborates with global team, across multiple Lilly sites: Indianapolis and San Diego.

The successful candidate will leverage their knowledge of modern data management, cloud architecture, strong problem solving, and software development skills to:

  • Foster collaborations with scientists in Cambridge and Indianapolis to design and implement workflow automation.
  • Design data architecture, manage the databases, develop, construct, and test the large databases and scalable processing systems to enable iterative and rapid data analysis at scale.
  • Identify best practices and implement robust software solutions that help to better extract, transform, and load (ETL) the data into either cloud-based or local database systems.
  • Automate key services and tasks across on-prem and cloud systems to increase efficiency and scalability.
  • Migrating on-prem software solutions and related data to the cloud.
  • Design and deploy new applications directly to the cloud.
  • Extend existing enterprise data architect to rapidly standup ad-hoc genomics databases tailored to specific requirements. Enable timely and efficient data updates, queries, and data mining.
  • Collaborate with computational scientists to scale-up novel informatics pipeline for efficient data processing and visualization

Basic Qualifications

  • Master in computer science, computer engineering, data science or related field.
  • Minimum one-year experience in cloud solution architect, development, deployment, Docker container management.
  • Minimum two-year experiences in one of the programming languages such as Python, R, PHP, Perl.
  • Minimum three-year experiences in Unix/Linux OS and shell scripting
  • Minimum one-year experiences in modular design, DevOps and Agile development methodology.
  • Minimum one-year experiences Experience in GitHub, Jenkins, Django etc.
  • Minimum two-year experiences in data modeling, Data Mart, NoSQL databases, and databases query language (SQL as well as NoSQL).

Additional Skills

  • Experience in building pipeline for data ingestion, index management, high dimensional data management
  • Ability to work independently to analyze customer requirements and translating to technology spec.
  • Ability to communicate and operate effectively across our multi-disciplinary, global environment and take own initiatives.
  • Demonstrated track record of agile learning and strong problem-solving skills.
  • Experience in Pharmaceutical company or life science industry is desired not required
  • Knowledge in genomics or chemistry is desired not required
